Making fishing lures using wood duck feathers from a recent duck hunting trip Not: To get the thread through without a threader you just get it starred and slurp it through like a straw! Love watching you try to do this lol, Ive never been better than you at anything fishing related but this.
Most of my crappie are on hand tied jigs these days. Feathers and fur move so much better in water than plastic.
Im surprised you dont fly fish and your actually but I guess Texas doesnt have a lot of trout fisheries haha.
Should get some bass on the fly though. Loads of fun

you can easily use fishing line or small wire like the wire you use to tie brassie flies fold it in half and get the thread through the hole without that goofy tool, i bought one of those as well then it dawned on me how easily you can use other materials you already have laying around to get the thread through the bobbin. and yeah as said close to the hook point is the part that goes into the vice not the eye haha

I must say that you brought a smile to my face and a chuckle to my heart. The hook end goes in the vice which many have already informed you. The greatest thing about tying flies is that almost anything can be used to tie a fly. Another great thing about tying flies is that you can catch any fish on a fly, something that you created. I enjoy your show and your beautiful family. May the Good Lord richly bless you!

Much easier to put the hook in the vice and lay materials on top also if you wrap your thread on the hook before adding any materials(feathers, hair, etc) makes it alot easier. One of the torture devices in your box is called a whip finish lots of vids on youtube on how to use makes for a much stronger and longer lasting knot. Love the vids would love to see more fly tying videos as it is my true passion.

I've always started the thread on the hook then let the bobbin hang while you situate the feathers or fur then hold the feathers with one hand and wrap the thread with the other hand. also like others have stated, putting the other end of the hook in the vise is key. furthermore grab some fly cement to seal off the half hitches

I am no professional fly tier but I would recommend not cutting you thread until the fly is complete. makes you life a little easier because you only have to start the thread once. Thanks for the Vids!

I dont know if youll read this, but Ive been tying flies for almost a decade. Dm me and Ill try to give you some pointers. Youve got a good start so far. Anyways God Bless!

if you start wrapping the tread first on the hook shank before you start adding feathers that makes is easier. It frees up your hands when you start adding material.

I'm dying. keep putting dem feathers in your hat, but watch a video on tying. I'm beyond sure everything was done wrong. but It was very entertaining watching.

Fantastic! It has probably been more than sixty years since I last tied a fly, but I could still feel the weight of the bobbin and the texture of the chenille.
