Cooking Trout with HOT Rock (Primitive Fire)
video description
1 Catch some trout, gut em, keep the skin on
2 Find some clay mud, use a few pine needles or sage, salt/pepper, pack the cleaned trout in approx 1/2 inch of clay, head to tail
3 Get a good bed of coals glowing and drop the clay-packed trout in the coals
4 Drink a beer or a shot or a coffee or some water while you kill some time
5 when the clay is hardened and starts to crack, pull them out of the coals and let them cool for a bit
6 Have another drink
7 Take the cooked clay/trout pottery, place it like its swimming, and pop the belly on a rock by the fire
8 If you do it right, it will crack open like a clam and split in half
It holds in all the moisture and flavor and if youre backcountry all you need is a little salt n peppa
Its worth trying. You wont be disappointed

For cooking on the hot rock, you can add oil or butter or even animal fat to cook on it just like a regular frying pan. Although i prefer putting a stick through the fish and smoking it until its done, then i put it on the coals for a little bit on each side and crisp up the skin.

Don't use rocks from the water. When water logged rocks get hot the water turns to steam and the rocks explode. Ive had a rock explode on me and sent hot embers in every direction. On me, in my tent and in my sleeping bag.

This place reminds me of a river I just started trying to fish last year. Love it when you can camp on the side of a river. So peaceful and Tranquil! Keep up the grind it will pay off

First fish, on the Power Bait. let me get in your spot lol
BTW, if you get a rock that's up on the bank far enough that it hasn't been in the water it won't explode in the fire.

Careful using olive oil on the axe. Olive oil will go rancid eventually. I generally use boiled linseed oil on all my wooden handles
