You know if you don't have anything encouraging and to lift his spirits shut the hell up. if you've hunted for awhile it happens to all of us I lost one to a damn gator once was I supposed to shoot him to cause he got my buck. ive also lost a couple it's called nature we do our best to recover what we shoot but shut happens so if ya have nothing good to say don't comment and move on damn

I lost a big buck this year on last weekend of gun season, tracked him on a blood trail that looked a lot like your blood trial, I shot him with a. 30-30 150 gr corelock in the front shoulder and never found him

Next time take a fishing rod with a top water lure to retrieve the ducks. Also if you over cook the duck breast it tastes like liver. Medium rare is best in my experience.

An unethical hunter would stop at 400 yards. Get owners permission and get a tracking dog out there! Pretty pathetic you shot it and stopped looking for it that quickly!
