I don't doubt that shimano sedona is a good reel. I like shimanos a lot.
But a friend of mine have the old sedona and dunked it in saltwater while wade fishing and didn't clean it. The reel froze and it turned out the handle shaft rusted out in the main gear tube. The bearings are still turning okay though which shows that the bearings they use are of good quality.
I myself have a newer sedona FE C3000 and one time after fighting a few big buffalo fish the reel started binding randomly. I suspected the gear train might be out of alignment slightly so I broke it apart and reassembled and it now works great. Again, I trust shimano in using good bearings in this newer model because they don't use a lot of bearings (4 total) unlike some other companies (e. g. 10 bearings on an entry level reel suggesting the quality of bearing can't be good. Also like you said their drag is smooth but if get water in it might get slippage.
All in all, what I am trying to say is sedona is a good reel from a reputable company who can't risk of making bad reels and losing market to daiwa, etc. But to say that you don't need to take good care of it is an exaggeration.

I have a Sedona 4000 that's been in heavy use for about a decade and it's so bulletproof that I'm actually getting annoyed. I want an excuse to buy a new reel but it will not give me one. When I say heavy use, I mean multiple seasons used personally and as a client reel while guiding in Alaska. The thing got seriously abused. Countless huge Coho, Chum and Pink salmon. Dropped, dunked and overworked by newbie clients. Used in freshwater and salt. Never serviced. Works like it's only been out of the box for a couple months. Infuriatingly good product.

i have many reels. expensive and middle of the road. let me recommend another low budget reel. okuma stratus. usually on sale at dicks for around 30. ive had the 25 size for a cpl years used in salt alot. i have had on issues with this real. havent even oil it or greased it yet. its taken a beating. i opened it up there was no corrosion on inside or water whatsoever and grease looked like new. i have no ties to okuma just fyi. used it 2-3 times a week. great reel. still use it

Lost my freshly bought brand new little sedona and rod combo to a fish. Should've loosened the drag right up before I went and changed the water in the live bait bucket, rookie mistake. Literally put my rod down for one second and the rod was pulled in the water. Part of me went with that combo, I've never been the same person again.

So True! Probably the best and cheapest reel for saltwater. I wouldn't go any cheaper, and if you have to go cheap THIS is the best reel for the money! Great reels we own many. Funny I don't understand all the hate on WD40 lol. it's not like you're opening the reel up and spraying it inside lol

Absolutely love the feel>>>allabout. wiki/cw90 I own several Penn Reels and this is my favorite so far, I've used it about 6 times already, really smooth, and I expect the durability of my other Penn reels. Very happy may purchase a second one in fact!

I've never tried the Sedona. I've been using the Shimano Sienna 4000. I've had that reel for 2 years now. And it still works like brand new. For 30 great reel. I gotta try the Sedona. Good review dude! Keep up the hard work.

i own a 10 year old Shimano Catana 4000. it looks like a Zombie, but still performs like day one. After having Penn, Daiwa and Okuma Reels fail on me after not even a half year. I m definetly going to stick with Shimanos.

I got a Sedona 4000 for everything from snapper to snook and reds and it's smoother than any reel I've ever had in my hands, dead honest it's better than a Stella in smoothness and still is after 2 years of abuse

any good reel n rod as a combo thats salt water and corrosion resistance and that will work good in fresh water thats around 100 or cheaper and can last long and can catch bream flatheads and squid
