In this catch, clean and cook video a couple of friends and I witnessed a a very rare once in a lifetime natural phenomena and caught it on tape. The lobster migration otherwise called a walk or crawl, is unpredictable and nobody knows when, or if it will happen year after year. This migration was triggered by hurricane Irma, but they can be triggered by cold fronts and other pressure/weather systems. We caught the spiny lobster while free diving off Ft. Lauderdale beach in South Florida and I cooked the whole lobster and I show how to make a lobster bisque recipe.

Young man, do you know what makes the lobster soup orange in colour and tasty? Not the tomato, is the orange guely gut you mention in this video! Actually it is not the digestive organ, it is the reproductive organ aka eggs! Do it properly you should plug out those deadman fingers gills, and digestive guts only. They are either brown or grey, fill with sand. Easy to distinguish. Get a hummer, crack the shell and leg a bit, fry the shell in butter till they turn red, add a liter of stock or water in the pan, add the usual suspects: onion, tomato and celery, boil for half hour. Take out the shell, use a spoon or similar utensil scrape the meat out from shell and legs, put it back to the soup, add some cream, salt and pepper, and you will be eating like a king!

I am from the Bahamas and always thought this was a lie from the old folks that the Lobster walked on the beach but after a month long strong pressure and muddy water storm they came right in along the shore line marching in line the way you are seeing them now in South Andros Bahamas. It was the most amazing event that I had ever seen. Women and men walked the beach and were picking them up in buckets. So great video!

For the leg meat you can try breaking them at the joints and using the flat wide side of a chef knife to push/crush and squeeze the meat to the other side allowing you to pull it out. For things bigger than the legs you can hit the shell with the edge of a big chef knife and while it is embedded in the shell twist the knife and it helps break the shell. That way you don't squish the juices out or crush the meat.

Great job, Vic. Youb& Brook are a super enjoyable team whether catch, clean, cook, or just being friends (keepers. Love the bisque info. Got to go to FL or somewhere warm & do free diving. In the meantime, I'll live vicariously through you two & Darcie and Brian. Jerry, Disabled Vietnam vet. Keep up the good work.

Its a lot like our king crab here in AK most people eat the legs and claws but people dont realize there is a super rich amazing piece of meat in the belly under all the gills and guts that weighs about 4-6oz. Its a huge waste and sad that people throw it away when it takes almost no extra work to clean and cook

just as a tip, when you cut veggies with your knife bend the tips of your fingers inward and use your knuckles as a guide for the blade so you don't chop your fingers off. Let the weight of the knife do the work (assuming your knife is good) and use a sharp edge.

Hey just wondering how long do we have for lobster season here in Florida and where is the best place you suggest I go to catch them also I live in dania beach if youre ever up this I would love to meet up with you so I learn all your skill out on the open water

if it is anything like atlantic lobster, You dont need to use a knife to separate the legs part from the hard head cover. thumb in the body and one on the upper shell. pry away from each other. pull apart and it comes apart perfectly.
