I took a trip up to Connecticut to do some striper (striped bass) fishing with two of my good buddies Alec and Juno Ryan. This is day 1 of saltwater bass surf fishing the Long Island Sound. The ADDICTION starts here. We were mainly fishing swim baits, bucktail jigs and surface plugs/poppers.

To catch stripers and blues all you need is 20# braid with a 30# mono or fluoro leader or shock leader on average. Do over do it. If blue fish are mixing with the bass, then add a steel leader. People dont know how to line a reel these days. You match the line break strength with the drag amount of the reel your using. And if you match your reel to rod, a fish or you, will never damage your equipment. If you go less, you never have to worry.

Drive to norwalk Connecticut and go to rowayton, there's this place called rocky point which is where I took my profile picture. I've caught big stripers there and massive black sea bass. There's also lots and lots of porgies. The big ones fight good and it takes no effort to get hooked up.

for land and pier based shark fishing. should i get a okuma makira 80w or avet 80w or senator 14/0. the senator has way more line but the avet and okuma have way more drag. any reel suggestions are welome but has to be under 800

How do you work poppers and other lures with an 11 foot rod? I have a 12 foot and all I can do with it is cast bait and leave it in the sand spike. It's a light graphite rod too but just doesn't feel right?

The best SURF tide is outgoing NY, LI, CT, RI, MASS, NJ. All they got is head shakes and little drag. nothing like a snook or red of the same size.

Hey Josh welcome to the NE! That's a sick rod you have their, it looks like the blank is carbon fiber? If you don't mind me asking, what's the make?
