Back in 1975 I was down in Monterey bay for my quantification dive for my SCUBA license in the kelp forest off cannery row.
After my quantification dive I took my speargun out to see if I could get a nice Lingcod.
As I was paddling out to where I was going to make my dive, one of the hundreds of Sea Otters that were feeding in the kelp just popped out of the water on to the front of my half length dive mat and we sat there for maybe a minute to a minute and a half, nose to nose, checking each other out.
He'd cock his head to one side and I'd cock mine to the other, and then he'd tilt his head back the other way and so would I.
We checked each other out and I talked to him a little, and he rolled off my mat and went on his merry way.
It was an amazing encounter with a fellow fisherman.
I thank God every day for the thousands of such moments that most men never get to see and even a rich man can't always buy.
I've always said, ''there's more to life than chasen the big bucks'' unless of course it's got a great set of horns.

For halibut here in San Diego we use a technique referred to as the Rodney Special. Rodney is a youtube angler as well with a decent following for us Southern California youtubers. He found that a dropshot with a gulp mullet preferably in chartreuse is the absolute juice! Flounder and halibut are very similar, I wouldn't be surprised if you found this method effective to get your legal Texas flounder; ) Tight lines!

Hey there Rob! Tip from an amateur lol. When keeping fish on a stringer, pierce it through their bottom jaw, instead of through the gills. Fish will stay alive all day, because the gills don't get damaged. ;) tight lines

How do YOU guys like to cook redfish or other inshore species? And who else has tried throats before? I can't emphasize it enough - SAVE THEM THROATS! They're quickly becoming my favorite part of the fish.

Nice catch. I think I will look for that jalepeno/garlic seasoning. Im betting I can find it at HEB or Central Market. Nice choice of brewsky as well, Dos Equis would have been my other goto. Great video.

Chasing Redfish question: Is it best to start when the tide is coming in or just fish in the morning because fish bite in the morning? Thanks!
