Fun review of your recent tournament. Darn Wacky Worm is still the deal. Appreciate you discussing on the water behavior. I have been all the personalities (good, bad, entitled, accidentally rude) you mentioned at one time or another. I strive to be the chill guy who does not mind Poachers who follow and then fish where I am fishing after seeing me tie into a fish (or hearing my dog who barks like hell with every fish caught.
When a boat comes within communication distance I almost always say You guys are welcome to fish anywhere around me. That usually gets everybody to a chill level and they almost always move on quickly. If tournament pros or pretty much anybody else asks me to move in a chill way, done. But, nobody likes a Tough Guy and I do not respond well to that.
My biggest mistake is running to a spot, dropping the trolling motor and fishing. and then seeing another boat in the direction I am going. I always apologize. They will almost always say to keep on fishing.
When seeing a Property Owner Fishing I usually say they are welcome to jump in the back of my bassboat while I fish this shoreline. I add, as long as you have a fishing license. Never got a taker but they always remember you when you are on the water and will wave or come out to say hello. I have had Property Owners ask if I want to tie up and join them inside when weather would come through. Hell, they probably are just feeling sorry for my dog!

I don't know how it works in other areas but I live near a bunch of small lakes and with that there are more fishing clubs than you can shake a rod at. So much so, the clubs have to submit their schedules to fish to the Division of Natural Resources and they have to sign off on them due to ramp capacity and such. They will literally come down and kick other people off the ramp if they're impeding club tournaments.
I never understand why they wouldn't do that for these large tournaments on smaller lakes. Aside for the 'free waters' argument, these anglers make a living off these tournaments and sponsorship, and I don't blame them being upset if someone is encroaching or blocking them. Now, usually cool heads prevail the best and a simple explanation of the situation works everything out, but some people now a days have little courtesy or thought to keep a reasonable distance.
Sure as anything, when the PGA tournament comes to town, no one in town gets to go play 18 holes, no matter if they worked all week or not. I don't understand why people just have to get out and boat up around anglers. Just sit back, relax and watch.
Scott - Your personality and involvement with the youth has made you a beacon in the community for the sport. I'm glad to hear you kept your cool and told those kids what's up. Lessons from the Pros are the ones they'll remember the most. Keep up the hard work and keep making the great content!

The thing is, this is what Scott and the rest of the pros do for a living! Granted most of us watching have a hard time relating our 9-5 or 7-4 or whatever jobs we have to what they do but as fun as it looks to us, I've traveled the circuit for a few tx an let me tell you they do put in the work! Anyway my point is you would not want someone to get in your way and keep you from providing tor your family and that is what happens when you decide to post up, or blocked a guy on tournament days just Because it's a FREE COUNTRY, NO ONE OWNS THE WATER or any of the ridiculous reasons people want to give for why Scott is wrong for bringing awareness to this growing problem. An look I understand it's a hard pill to swallow Because you think bass fishing for a living isnt a real job but even if it was the greatest job in the world or an easy, huge money making job, which is really isn't, an it is extremely hard work and extremely competitive but if it wasn't, why cant you for just a few days give the lake to the circus and let these boys work, you have the rest of the year to catch em these boys only have 2, 3 if they get lucky to put together a consistent day of work and they are off an gone to the next one and you can once again fish ur favorite spot. All I'm trying to say is respect them as you would want to be respected at ur job an get ot the way! Thanks and great job this season Scott and all the SMC team!

Well this is why its called a controversial issue. To the people who didnt understand my point on this particular issue. Let me try to clarify this.
First and foremost I dont think tournament anglers are better or entitled more than anyone on the water. We are all anglers with the same passion and thats very cool. I just want to raise awareness to the next generation so this doesnt keep happening with the wrong intentions in mind.
I dont have ANY issue at all with anyone just fishing around their lake on ANY day of a tournament or to someone fishing a spot that a particular tournament angler might be fishing in an event that got there before the tournament angler did. Its a free and public lake. Now to the VERY SMALL AMOUNT of people who purposely go out to fish EXACTLY the known spot a tournament angler has a chance to win a major tournament to see how they can do or block them for other reasons isnt cool. plain and simple. (I am not saying this is what happened in this particular case. also I never asked them to leave the spot. I left and never came back)
I appreciate all the comments on this issue and hopefully we can all learn something from this including myself.
Again we all share the same passion for this sport and thats so awesome. we are all ANGLERS.

I was really taken back at first by your comments, till I realized those guys were intentionally showing up to fish where they knew a tournament was going on. As just an occasional weekend warrior, I try not to be on the lake when there is a tournament going on. Unfortunately, there is almost always some sort of tournament at Ky Lake. With the money I have invested to fish for just a few weekends of fun, itd be pretty irritating to have someone move in on me and then expect me to leave, or just watch them. However, if a guy pulls up and says hey man, I'm doing really good and I really got a chance to make some things happen. This is a key spot for me, can I fish this spot a little while? I'm prolly gonna understand that he is just trying to making a living here. Now as someone else said, if he says and man I got one of these tournament shirts or SMC hats/ shirts. ima be like hell's yea! Theres one up under that log bro go get em. and that angler prolly just made a fan for life for handling it the right way. FYI my wife and I love watching your videos!

Reading all these comments and watching this video reminded me of a time my brother and I were fishing lake St. Clair. (My home waters) 2hrs away but close enough? We were fishing smallies in may with the other 900 ppl. We managed to find a small area without 6 boats already there. Just 2! Lol. anyway we were catching a few and out of the horizon a giant bass boat rolls up to 100 yrs away drops trolling moter heads straight for us casting. Gets to within a cast length away and I realize its Van Dam and Mark Zona. They cut right across our bow as we were drifting. We basically stopped fishing and starred dumbstruck at what they were doing and who they were. We all made polite conversation and they were gone as fast as they came. We were all catching fish so it didn't matter much. I was kinda pisses at the time but they were both cool. we weren't to pissed because unfortunately it's so common for that to happen. I guess the bummer is my one brush with fishing fame was under that circumstance. Tight lines everyone!

Dear Scott. I am new to all this tournament bass fishing having been recently disabled I have a lot of free time on my handsso I'm learning a lot about it. I'm surprised this problem hasn't come up before. One thing you might consider is having a bunch of your sponsors put together some dollar off coupons. If you had a packet made up in case you were in this situation. Say you meet up with someone and you could tell them hay man I'm fishing this tournament I scouted this spot, if you'll let me have it I'll give you this packet with coupons for say 20 in Googans, 20 in hooks, 20 in Jerk baits, or how ever you wanted to work it out. Plus a signed hat in a sealed bag. I'm sure anybody would be more than happy to give up their spot. I was a truck driver for 40 years. I went by your place in Clewiston many times on my way to Miami. God bless brother.

I've been on both sides of the issue. As the tourney angler and the rec angler. The approach is basically the same. Use common sense and respect others. Unfortunately while being a rec angler during tourneys I have seen tourney anglers too many times driving to their waypoint and blast past me at 50mph, in a small waterway, without slowing and pull up 100yds ahead in the area I was fishing towards and just post up. Folks you don't respect others. don't expect respect in turn. If they had slowed and not damn near throw me off my deck and say Hey im in the tourney and I have a waypoint ahead of you. You mind if I fish it. It would have taken 10secs to do and I certainly would have had no problem with it.

I enjoy your videos, but I think your perspective is skewed. For some of us getting our boat out and going fishing is something we get to do three or four times a year. For me it's like medicine or therapy. When I get on a lake, I have to make the most of every minute because I don't know when I'll be able to find time to get back there. To suggest that your time on the lake is more important than those who rarely get to fish is wrong. I understand you're trying to win more money than I'll make in 5 years, but the value of my time on the lake is just as valuable, in fact it's priceless. I wish you well in 2020, but don't think the fish you catch are more important then the ones us average Joes catch.

Scott looks like that can of worms has been opened again. This does need to be addressed. Its evident both sides of this issue needs to be addressed. I think a third party needs to voice their opinion on this vary heated subject matter. Let's get all the pro sponsors that help both sides give their opinion on this matter. You can't do what you do without them. And they can't do what they do without us the everyday bass fisherman. I would love to here their side of it. I as a three year current, and future follower has a good idea. Kinda like we treat navigation lights, everyone knows witch direction the boat is approaching. One rule for everyone.
