Steve, I'm... how old am I? 57 I think. Back in the 80s I had hair to my shoulders. Every single time I watch your videos I cringe :)
I have a proposal for you, come up with some sort of fund drive....
I will cut off 1 inch of my hair for every 20k (or votes that I'll turn into money) put towards funding refugees leaving Ukraine.
You get points for doing something that honestly, couldn't be more honorable... and you get to experience something that I learned in the 90s.
Am I suggesting this for selfish reasons? Hell yes.
Do I think, in the end, you will thank me? Hell yes.

I have wanted to buy for over 20 years a backgammon type laptop that opens up like a little suitcase. You could have everything in it, it wouldn't get so hot, the power cord could spool out, you'd have a mouse and joystick ready to go, pen, paper, whatever. Instead of carrying around a small suitcase and I just have to unpack everything anyway. It wouldn't even have to be thick like a backgammon case now, it could be really thin. I would buy one.

Is it just me or is the segmentation of the product stack getting insane these days?
I mean, even in the GPU sphere its getting gratuitous.
RTX 3050, 3050ti, 3060, 3060ti, 3070, 3070ti, 3080, 3080ti, 3090, 3090ti etc.
A very marginal difference in performance ends up getting hyped up and blown up just because some bean counter wants to leech every bit out of the consumer.
Capitalist endgames I guess

Unfortunately, the 12500 is currently 325.00 on Amazon, out of stock at Best Buy, and doesn't appear to exist anywhere on Newegg. Luckily, the 12400 and 12500 are very similar in performance, so the increased base clock of the 12500 is basically the only thing I'm losing out on by being on the 12400. Whatever the case, I'm very pleased with my 12400 purchase. It's a very nice upgrade over my aging i5-9600K.

Thanks. I thought the difference would be be a couple of percent higher. I would maybe have gotten the 12500 if I was buying a CPU however I think I would spend the extra money for the 12600K. I am still fine with what I have though and won t be getting anything this year and probably not the next either. I got a CPU in 2019 so looking to upgrade around 2024. My old CPU lasted from 2013 to 2019 after all.

I'd love to get one but selection of ITX motherboards for them is absolutely abysmal. The only one thats decently priced is a gigabyte board that has absolutely abysmal reviews (DD4 Board) on Newegg. Not even going to touch DDR5 at its current price. Could you guys find out what the heck is the problem with this board? Its the Gigabyte Aorus Z690I Ultra DDR4 mini-itx. There's got to be a story here.

Hey man thank you for the videos. I have been asking around for an answer which is somewhat related to this video, but with no luck. I have heard that the 12700 performs almost the same as the 12700k if you upgrade the cooler and disable power limits in the bios, is this true? If so can you make a video explaining how to do that. The extra video processing could be useful for some multi monitor business applications, and the second codec engine could be useful for streamers to offload work to from their main GPU. Very niche cases though.
I'm willing to bet they're making 12500/770 silicon and downgrading some to 12400/730 on imperfect chips based on silicon lottery.

Was debating between getting this or the 12400(F) for my upgrade, until I just decided to spring for the 12400(F) because it's cheaper. Glad I didn't miss out much on the CPU performance.
Now to just hope that my 1660 Super will stay strong for the next few years until GPU prices come back to sane levels...

If the 12500 has exactly the same power consumption as the 12400, but is 1-2% faster then you'll use 1-2% less power frame for frame. So you could look at it as the environmentally friendly choice! The 20 difference in price could pay for itself in energy bills over the course of 4 or 5 years also.
