We're overclocking the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X with liquid nitrogen today, pushing past 5GHz and explaining how sensitive it is along the way. Buy an autographed GN toolkit during the stream and Joe & Steve will both sign it! We also have a new fall lightweight hoodie here: Find Bearded Hardware here: The AMD R9 3900X couldn't do the magical 5GHz out of the box, but we're back to push it beyond 5GHz with the help of liquid nitrogen. This stream will include start-to-finish setup of the overclocking machine, offering a unique and informational look at what we typically have to do behind the scenes.

About the 9900K Tdp question, AMD portion. for zen 2, AMD is kinda doing the intel method for 'default' operation, and instead of 105w limit, the limit is 142w. this is the PPT setting youll see in ryzen master. this is also why by 'default' the processor under an all-core load runs faster than the base clock. if you were to change PPT to the tdp of your processor, 105w for 3900x, then you will find the processor will run at the base clock of the processor under those cenebench all-cores or other heavy all-cores, 3. 8ghz for 3900x. i would say if AMD stuck to how they did with zen 1, tdp would indeed = max allowed power draw. thats my take on it.

I've seen a claim repeated often that the 3900X is basically an average binned 3600 core and a good 3600X core stuck together, and that the 3800X is currently the best of the best 7nm silicon. Would be interesting to see you test the 3800X on LN2 to see if it goes deeper into 5GHz and whether or not those claims are true.

You are doing it all wrong. For that generic statement from the Viewers there is only one answer appropriate: See you at our next World record OC-Event then. Or maybe a question; Which position do YOU have on the leaderboard? also funny: Hi Kingpin, Tin, Shamino, nice incognito account.

This test is a lie, we all know AMD does not actually sell the 3900x. Seriously, I apologize to Nvidia for mocking their RTX launch, at least they had units to sell. AMD botched the 3900x launch far far worse than Nvidia. Launches mid-2019, can t find any till 2020. Maybe?

Why not put the mobo in a vacuum chamber to prevent moisture? Or in a nitrogen vessel, you could maybe do that slightly easier, but either way the point would be to remove the water vapor from the surroundings to keep from having to do all this moisture mitigation.

Seems you are using the 5700 XT referenced card again? Can't you use the red devil / sapphire pulse that have micron memory? To see if you can get higher scores. That memory should hit 1000 MHz. Might help to reduce the memory bandwidth bottleneck

Yo, hey steve, the video from yesterday is totally out of sync with the audio but only after about 30min in to the stream. , i'd like to watch it to get more info for clocking my 3900x but is unwatchable right now.

Neighbour: Hey, who was that big bearded guy I saw hanging around last night? Steve: He goes by the name of bearded hardware, he came over to put his hardware in my socket, we had to use a lot of vaseline

It seems like it might be a bit rough on the hardware with all the thermal cycling. Did anyone ever consider targeting a fixed temperature using a cold mixture, like LN2 + Acetone = -94C?

The stream ends up being about 57secs out of sync at the end. Video shows steve say goodbye at about 4hr: 00min: 09sec and the audio says goodbye at about 4hr: 1min: 06secs.
