This actually hits hard- I picked up the steam controller in their last 5 sale and I'm getting into it, trying to print a new pommel to suit my hand. And they killed that, an actually decent, if clandestine piece of hardware. The sad truth is that these kinds of things really don't matter to most end users, so long as they can engage with something on a base level. If Stadia had worked, even to just a playable level, the questionable build and complete lack of repairability wouldn't matter. Heck, look at the drift in Switch systems- people are resigned to that. At least with the joycons, they are otherwise good at filling their given niche. I just hate it so much when a product can just subsist on the coattails of a flagship product, when there are so many passionate people out there, and demonstrably great ideas left unused.

This is good reason to not buy this shit even if is moust great controler on earth but is not coz psx dual shock 1 controler is best. I use mine 20 years now and still work perfect, i never repair it just replace silicon pads. Lol analog not work properly in new controller, he stuck in 1 position and no back what a shit. 18: 42. minus -100/10 for anty service trick ppl and shity design coz all that part can be work much easier without oportunity for something broke easy wey. Thats my opinion. If You need controler buy sony dualshock 1 use usb adapter and program like xppader and You can play likie in google shity controler but never need repair or even if you need only normal scruedriver and 15 min for repair even if need solder new analog to pcb. Cheers from Poland. Apple and google can die for all this bad practise.

I miss being able to use quality rechargable AA batteries in basically any wireless controller. 4800 mAh 1. 2V (this is a bit of a low ball since NiMH batteries run between 1. 2 and 1. 3 V for the majority of the life of the charge in lower drain scenarios such as a game controller) gives you a similar Wh rating of 5. 76 while allowing you to quickly swap batteries as needed without having to be tethered to a power source or remembering to charge. As an aside the play and charge kit for XBone is 1400 mAh at 3v (conservatively 4. 2 Wh as I do not have a proper data sheet) which makes it worse than just using some rechargable AAs which can be used in almost any device that takes AAs.

I'm blown away by how complicated Google have made this controller. I've taken apart several dualshock 4s, and those are so easy to take apart and put back together. There's no extra frame or cover, no fancy screws. All it has is one flat cable that connects the front LED+touchpad to the board (reconnecting this has no comfortable method but it's ok, a plastic cage that holds the battery, and a very small pcb. Over the years, sony has redesigned the dualshock 4's internals a couple times, but they're so simple that it doesn't matter to anyone taking one apart for the first time.

IMO, nowadays Torx is no longer used for tamper resistance. Torx bits are very common and easy to come by. Torx was designed to transfer higher and more consistent torque, hence the name. As an added benefit, Torx heads don't wear out nearly as easily as Philips heads. While Philips heads cam out at a certain torque (which will in time damage the driver and head, Torx is used in manufacturing with torque limiting drivers, so you simply apply pressure until it clicks, which makes manufacturing easier and improves consistency.

I have taken apart dozens of controllers from all different generations of game console. This has to be the most over-engineered POS i've ever seen. Just no reason at all for most of this construction other than they threw money at it. So many pointless assemblies (actual buttons v. carbon contact backed rubber pads like everyone else -- the buttons will wear out) and intricacies that make no sense (when compared to most gaming consoles controllers. I would never buy this POS.

I used to repair cellphones. Im not sure if you tried this, but in the future, try using multiple spudgers. I'd try nylon spudgers first, but since the controller seems too thin, maybe try metal spudgers. The wide flat ones are really good. At any rate, the strategy works when you have a ton of heavy duty clips, is to create space where you can, then if you cant find the clips right away, keep widening the gap.

you do not need the pixel phone to register the device. I have a One Plus 7 and set it up through the app like that. I cant play on the phone because thats when the pixel is needed but you can attached the controller to your account through it on any phone. Hope you got your activation code by now I got mine about a week after I received my stadia.

at least with the Gizmondo or the Pippin, you can play shitty games with it today and at least do SOMETHING with them, the Stadia Controller is an 8oz brick that does nothing because the service is terrible and worthless. And this comes from one of the biggest tech companies in the world. This is so epic fail it makes me laugh.

I think it still works after managing to get the thing open; whereas at the start of the video you said that it didn't work! BTW, I would have had that thing open in 20 seconds with a small hammer and a good-sized flat blade screwdriver, and leave it in better shape. That tiny pry bar was ridiculous.
