While visiting Lian Li's factories in Taiwan, we stopped by Lian Li HQ to look at a prototype airflow case, the Lancool II Mesh, which will be the successor to the Lancool II. Sponsor: be quiet! Straight Power 11 Platinum be quiet! website) Find our Factory Tour series here: Lian Li previously released the Lancool II toward end of year 2019, but we had issues with its thermal performance given the panel design. The company then brought a revision to CES, and since CES, has made even further revisions to increase hole density in the mesh of the Lancool II case update. Our review of the original Lian Li Lancool II is here:

There are 3 things I look for in a new case. One tempered glass side panel covering at least the motherboard area (I don't need to see the PSU shroud. 3 front 140mm intake fans for an ATX case. A mesh front panel with some form of dust filtration on any parts that take in air. Give me that and you've got a good airflow case. One final thing that I'd like to see in an airflow case is how the space is used. Make the case less deep, so that the intake fans are closer to the motherboard. And make the case wider so that you can hide cables and HDD/SSDs behind the motherboard tray and PSU cavity while also making more room for airflow around a vertically mounted GPU (the extra height from fitting the 3 intake fans helps here too. HDD/SSDs don't need cooling, they work best at 35-40C, so don't ruin the design trying to get airflow to wherever they are.

So most of case makers stopped at 2013, when you still have unfiltered vent holes all around the case, still need to pull whole front panel to access to eventuall front filter, and all mainstream midi towers are in just one orientation. I feel like time has stopped. I really regret i didnt stared my own business previous year, seeing that stagnation i would be millionaire right now as all of my cases would contain few unique features, and every of them would contain user friendly accessibility to all filters and usefull tricks. All with low budget and top serviceableness. Whats more interesting i have writed to top 10 manufacturers with my projects, sended them my drawings, and only one of them is making something very similar to those drawings - Silverstone.

Hopefully they apply the same learnings to the O11 Dynamic Mini. I'm most excited for that case, but the ventilation perforations looked horrible, with more metal than hole. The larger Dynamic and XL could get away with less aggressive meshing by virtue of having tons of fans, but the Mini needs to make due with only two fans in each bay instead of three, that may also need to fight a radiator when you're liquid cooling (and it's an O11 Dynamic, why wouldn't you liquid cool, which further increases static pressure demands. If they're not careful, you won't need fans to get air through it, you'll need a freaking air compressor.

A state of emergency is declared as of today for the US pertaining to the Wu Flu. I do remember saying this was going to keep getting worse last week. I'm sorry i'm right. But I still say it's just getting started. I hope i'm wrong. But if i'm right, the death rate is going to be very high for this thing. Anyone saying this is 'just the flu' at this point has no idea what they are talking about. Be safe everyone. And I strongly suggest you stop your travel plans, and if you have any choice in the matter, 'Stay the Eff at home! '. You don't want to be out and about right now with this thing expanding the way it is.

These changes are great. I m kind of surprised they didn t go with a boxed frame along the bottom so you could attach more fans down there like with the original cool 2. But my biggest wonder/question/gripe with the new case is, why take away the front case rgb? I mean it would have worked wonders against the mesh way better than the original lan cool 2. Well either way, when I build a computer I might go mesh depending on how big of a difference in temps it makes vs the original considering I m not planning on over clocking but having a powerful gpu.

I have wanted to do an all-white build for a long while, because I think it would look so refreshing in the 99% black computer world we live in. But the selection of parts is SO limited. SO few white PSUs, white cables, white ram, white mobo, and especially white video cards. And white air coolers too now that I think of it. Not to mention a white mouse and keyboard. And is there even one monitor with a white bezel? IDK. TL; DR - Would love to do an all-white build but never will due to extremely limited part selection and cost. ;-(

Great looking case, except the only exhaust fan looks like the case holes are fairly covered on the sides. Been seeing this in a lot of cases lately huge air intake from all around perforation and then the only exhaust area of the case being forgotten, and haphazardly covered for screw holes. Could have just been my eyes but i think i should state this because i really have been seeing this more and more from major companies and its a big part of airflow and case design that gets overlooked to often.

Hi, I am very very new to PC s and would love to learn about them and their parts. I have a deep passion for gaming and have recently found a passion for PC gaming (even though I have never owned a PC or played on one. I don t feel like I have adequate resources to learn about the computer science knowledge that many people possess. Would you or anyone reading this be able to give me advice on how to learn about them effectively so I know exactly what I m talking about? Thank you!

I know its too soon to say, but I literally just got this lianli case and was wondering if they had plans to allow owners to modify their old versions to be more similar to this new one. I looked at the heat specs and personally I don't think they are too bad (especially since I have no plans to really push my machine) but if I can make it cooler that without really compromising with the look, I would love that. I know Phanteks did that for the Shift.

Those aren't changes, but an admission of poor piss case design from Lian Li. What would you expect when you partner with overclockers who know nothing about thermodynamics instead of enginneers? Lian Li was never the same from the moment the founders step aside. They will eventually bring back some iteration of the V-series perforated panels. Those aquarium style cases with glass panels all around should be for display only and not for sale.
