Anybody with an Intel 4690 or 4690K will likely already know the performance that those who purchase the 1200 AF are getting, as those two CPUs seem to be the closest real comparison to what I feel the Ryzen 2300X sought out to replace, especially given its price point; due to how late in the game this had come out though, Budget Gaming systems really must get a 3300X or the relevant Zen II APU equivalent or better when they launch instead, it simply is not really worth lacking SMT if you are gaming or doing Workstation tasks and saving the money for a chip with a higher core count is simply a better path to take when you consider how soon CPUs with Eight Threads will become deprecated in Generation IX of Gaming, where Sixteen Threads and even Sixteen Physical Cores will become the new norm for us.

I'm still waiting for the day when I can upgrade my aging i5-6600 and rx-480 at a decent price and get a fair bump in speed. For the CPU I generally expect a 20%+ bump in speed and the GPU I generally accept no less than a 70% bump. My last PC was a I5-650 with a GTX-960. I did not get the bump in GPU that I wanted, but went from 2g vram to 8g. So many games that were texture limited looked much better (looking at you GTA V).
Right now I COULD upgrade, but would need to spend 1500+ on just the tower. Too expensive IMAO. Right now I am looking at a Rzzen 7 3700x and a Rx 5700. Full build on newegg with 32gb ram and a 1tb nvme ssd is 1300 before taxes and shipping.

I've just built a potato PC with this CPU with a cheap B450 mobo and some cheap 2666 MHz DDR4.
Using a leftover HD4770 on 1050p, this machine can make the VGA work at 100% on a 35..40% CPU loads and 50 degC on the stock box cooler. It still has headroom for summer temps.
Silent and effortless for browsing and small-time gaming. This machine will be good for future upgrades as well, so this CPU for this task IMHO was a good deal, although I'd prefer two core rejects to go away and never come back, letting the potato price range taken over by 4C parts one and for all, everything else going down as well.

These reviews of low end parts arguably carry more weight than high end. Part choice down in the budget range where you may see a 20fps, 50-70fps, gain for example is very noticeable and makes a big difference to the overall experience by carefully choosing where your money goes. It also makes overclocking more rewarding and just as fun! Once you reach even 3600 levels it sometimes, but not always, becomes a moot point and most people wont even tell if they had a 3600 or 10600k depending on settings and resolution etc.
I like watching these the most even though I wont buy the part! ;)

I bought this and a X570 board because my computer broke and I needed a computer but want to upgrade to Ryzen 4000 later instead of buying an already year old Ryzen 3000. 55 for a single CCX 2nd gen Ryzen CPU that you can OC to 4.1 GHz? Sure you only get 4 cores and 4 threads but that's still a steal not to mention you get an actually usable cooler with it. If I was building a new PC I'd get the 3100 but that thing is 110 and since I'll be replacing it anyway the 1200 AF is way more economical. You can even go crazy with the voltage because you don't have to worry about it degrading.

Been running a 1300X for about 3 years now. Got it on sale for 100 back when that was a great price for it. Got a 2700 for 130 about 7 months ago and have been in RMA hell with Biostar on a motherboard I planned for the upgrade with it for 5 of those months so am still running the 1300X. Good to see that similar processors still hold their own in gaming today. My GPU is an R9 295X2 so I'm not sure which is the more limiting factor haha.
Thanks for the content guys, keep up the great work.

It goes for 56-58 here in western EU. The 1600AF goes for the 125 same as 2600 et little less than 3300x, It just began to go down a little last best price was around 117 . So personally, the 3300x got my recommendation and the 1200af for the budget ones. 3600 goes for 175 at best 210 mos of the time. Here a website nice to find good price in the EU(whole) www.gputracker.eu

Haven't watched the video yet. And I already hate it. I can buy 3 1200 AF in Moscow for 52-53 . Today. But thanks to this video prices will go up : (
Update: Great CPU for 50 + but not so great for 75 . 3100 and 3300 are nice and all, but I cant find any of those. Cheapest 1600AF is 99 .

Steve? Even at 100 or 105? don't you think the 1600AF is still worth it? Sucks it's higher than 85... but it's still trading blows with the 3100 at gaming; AND it's trading blows with the 3300x in productivity. Often times winning out versus the two of them: All for the same price as the 3100?

Here in EU the 1200 AF goes for 55-60 (incl 21% sale tax). In my opinion it s a solid option to get into current gen, as many users still have Core 2 Duos and first Core series.
Just for comparison:
1600 AF 105-115
3100 115-125
3300x 140-150
