This is clearly a plan to turn all computers into a forced subscription taking away all ownership rights and any company that does it should be met with an immediate boycot if only people were smart enough to vote with their wallets, in that case, subscriptions, drm, anti right to repair, spying and narcissistic abuse as the exclusive method of communication between companies and customers wouldn't be a problem at all because people would have been smart enough to say no to it but most people are enablers who don't care about the world their own children they don't love grow up in.
My plans to upgrade my XP era machine were halted when every company I could get parts for turned into a scam, especially when every company is so set on forcing gamer themes and rgb that I can't find a plane green pcb optimised for long term stability in a professional environment suitable for a 20 year service life like a mid 2000s Dell when they were in their golden years standing a test of time most modern machines won't make it half way to with most of their original parts.
Now I'm more glad than ever to have switched back to a type writer and paper books that won't put a roofie into my drink when I'm not looking and won't be upgrading my 2007 laptop any time soon if at all.

I love how they state they changed from the 4090 to the 4080 Super due to the 4090's EOL, October 2024. Did they miss that the 4080 Super was also EOL the same month, October 2024 If EOL is the determining factor for components choice, as they state, then why does every Player model have a GPU that has already reached EOL As an example, the 3050 found in the Player One as of posting, was EOL October 2023.
To be clear, I am well aware that the 4090 has been sold out and the actual reason for the change is low supply. The point of this is that even after being told their site is lying or misinforming, after NZXT making a bunch of wording changes on their site, and after making a public statement, they still just can't seem to stop lying. None of the changes being made have anything to do with EOL. Otherwise, the Player pc line would all have gpus from AMD.
NZXT is just a scummy company that everyone should steer clear from. Unless you like burned down houses, predatory marketing to children, gaslighting, false claims, or simple fan RMAs that take longer than a month...

I like how you're taking the moral high ground. You exposed this service where the terms are very clearly laid out, no one knew about it previously meaning it barely even affected anyone. You're trying to take down a good company for no good reason, and youre getting millions of views per video on the subject when typically you only get 200K. I'm not saying it's a good rental program (yes it's horrible) but it's ultimately on customers to read the terms of service before they press agree, which legally binds them to those terms. It's an experimental program and they implemented it poorly. Well people know to continue ignoring the program now, move on. In before triggered comments... Not my intent at all.

There are no lock-in contracts for NZXT’s Flex program. As for keeping the original packaging, everyone asks for that. Otherwise customers can return expensive hardware in a garbage bag.
Look at this from Puget System’s return policy:
RETURN POLICY Within 30 days of the shipment of your order, you have the option to return your hardware for refund. Due to the high amount of labor involved in PUGET SYSTEMS’ services, as well as other unrecoverable costs, there is a $50 charge for any change made to orders already in progress, and all refunds and canceled orders are subject to a 15% restocking fee. All returned hardware must be undamaged and in as-new condition, in original packaging.

they could have had a slam dunk product with a rent to own service too. there is a market for budget PC users that can't or won't get a loan just to buy a $2,000 PC. NZXT could have sold regular pre-builts for cost plus some extra fee to cover the shrinkage of stolen rigs. car dealerships have been doing this for like 50 years. yeah, you end up paying more than the original price of the product, but you are paying extra to get to use the product during the year or two that you would have been saving for it. but no, they had to get greedy and go way beyond predatory loan rates.
people would be better off using their last dollar to play the lotto than rent one of these scam PCs lol

Anyone who bought into the idea of becoming a streamer or professional gamer using a rented computer was already hustling backward. Scams have always existed and will always exist because there will always be people out there trying to take advantage of people's wants and needs. One key phrase that keeps coming up in this discussion is that this targeted people who could not afford a computer, and at the end of the day, that is the bottom line. People should only buy something they can afford and be cautious of anyone offering something they know is out of their reach. No great deal exists, and no company is trying to help you out of anything but your money.

Not only can you just simply return items back to Best buy, but Best buy actually has a pretty good program that you can buy into that extends the return policy window. I will always promote this any chance I get because for me it was so useful. I bought in returned three separate laptops before I inevitably settled on just getting a desktop PC instead.
Each one of those laptops I opened, used, downloaded stuff onto, did work on for several weeks before returning them. And there was no restock fee at all. There was three separate chances I could have been stuck with a laptop that I was unhappy with but still had the opportunity to return.

After the first video in this saga I was able to save money by going to an illegal loan shark. Thanks to my suffering from hyperthyroidism the 3 dudes they've sent so far have yet to be able to break my kneecaps. It does still hurt but as of yet my patella's are still a monolithic mass of abnormally dense bone, probably 6-8 times the density of concrete instead of the normal 4. I hope the mob has a good retirement plan because after the nerve damage these guys have suffered essentially beating a tire iron against a piece of prestressed concrete like they use on bridges, they're gonna need it.

There's something really weird about the response video to me. It's for sure edited, all the jump cuts. But I wonder if maybe there was some sort of AI editing used ( I don't want to say that's it for certain because I am not knowledgeable about the capabilities of that) In the original NZXT response video you can see a weird clipping of his leg and his ring on his finger disappears at times especially when he crosses his hands together. I could be over-reaching but regardless the response is insincere and their service continues to be deceptive.

I would like to make more money considering I'm a social worker. but I would have a hard time supporting a predatory product just to have an obviously veneer-based fake smile. I have a modern computer, albeit usually about a generation behind, by buying used parts from good people and waiting for clearance deals from Microcenter or whatever company for water cooling parts and other accessories. I also didn't have to sell parts of my already-partitioned soul. Win-win-win
Thanks for all you and your team do, Steve.

i'm so glad you guys mentioned GeForce NOW. I was paying 5 dollars a month for it, using a slow laptop (Intel Celeron N4000, UHD graphics, 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM) in 2020-2022 while I was building a PC. The only thing you need for GeForce NOW - is a stable internet connection. And the performance is a stable 60 fps at all times. Honestly, go get GeForce NOW if you're on a shitty laptop or a slow PC, it's a much better deal than whatever NZXT is offering.

The idea of you want to be a steamer and start a career doing that but you aren't sure is silly. It takes time to build up a following online. You'll be many months in making payments on that PC and you'll be lucky if you make enough early on to even cover the payment. It's clear nzxt has no idea what they're doing and are just looking for any easy cash grab. The fact that they try and cover it up is slimey. They should all be ashamed.

Dont worry. Dell misled me on a warranty replacement when I was a kid. A TNT2 Ultra died and I called Dell and was sent a TNT2 M64 as a replacement. I didn't know it was worse. I wanted the same thing and he specifically assured me it's newer which, in the year 2000 I assumed newer was better and he led me to believe. I found out later that Dell lied to me and screwed me over. Dell lies, too. Keep that in mind.

I pretty much only watch a gamers nexus video when they’re doing important reporting, so I wanted to say thanks for looking out for consumers.
This kind of reporting is import, and rare to find. And the backlash it generates very clearly has an effect otherwise companies wouldn’t be so quick to respond, or even respond at all. I look forward to hearing what else you report on this situation.

I will be looking at GamersNexus merchandise page to find something nice to support them for looking out for PC and gaming Enthusiasts everywhere; and I hope other’s do too. To add I’d like to suggest the investigation and monitoring of new monitoring coming out with shifty specs about Dp 2.1 like the 27GX790A-B , where companies can’t confirm or deny which UBHR their $1k monitor is.

Such a shame. Bought the C1500 just 1 day before the initial video because based on different reviews it is Top Tier and cheaper than best in class Corsair AX1600i. Why does a premium company need to do this. I mean their products are good and they could earn money by just providing more quality products. Looks like greed is destroying a profitable company :(

Any software that isn't open source is, in effect, rented to you. It isn't more scandalous to pull the same bait and switch with hardware. It's just less abstract and therefore easier to notice. And if software that isn't open source IS free of charge, then YOU are the product. You don't use social media. Social media uses you, he said on a social medium.

It's happening everywhere at all levels of business. Everyone's broke and in the red and grasping at straws for how to make money without looking like they're making money. There's a disconnect between the fed's stated inflation rate and the true inflation rate. We're trying to live through a 250% inflation rate while pretending we're in a 20% inflation rate.

You don't like rentals we get it. But using your platform to attempt to destroy the reputation of a company is disgusting. You have no allegiance but own pocket. Stop this verbal diarrhoea it achieves nothing. If people lose jobs off of this it is you to blame. You could have approached this another way, but hey history shows this is what you do.

Wow, NZXT are total scumbags! The way they've gone about the whole situation is so shitty, but to be honest no real surprise, a lot of companies do similar things. Renting a PC isn't a totally bad idea, it's the way that NZXT and probably others go about it, and the prices they charge, that make it a bad idea. Excellent video as always!!
