Lian Li Lancool II Mesh Case Review vs. Phanteks P500A, Original, & More

The Lian Li Lancool II Mesh follows-up the Lancool II, with which we had a number of issues relating to overall performance of the chassis. The feature set was interesting, and that gave the case upsides, but its thermal performance was poor overall, and it did have some build quality issues and defects out of the factory. The new Lancool II Mesh fixes many of the problems we had, although it has left a few behind. In this review, we're benchmarking the Lian Li Lancool II Mesh for thermal performance (CPU and GPU temperatures) versus the original Lancool 2, the Cooler Master TD500, Phanteks P400A and P500A, Lian Li O11 Dynamic, and dozens more cases. This will help outlay the best gaming PC cases for airflow and cooling performance, with some additional focus on acoustic performance. Of course, overall build quality is also considered. The beginning of the review helps outline the differences between the Lancool II and Lancool II Mesh, build quality, and then we get into thermals and performance.

I gotta give it up to Be Quiet. The 500DX had ARGB and it has front type C. Very competitive and well made case. Definitely needs more fans though, compared to this. Idk how I feel about this case. Looks very well built. Just doesn't do it for me. I need to see the Meshify version of the new 7 compact ASAP. Fractal falling behind.

There is also an RGB Edition of this case. Has the full front mesh, mesh side panel, and honeycomb ventilation changes. However, you get 3x 120mm RGB fans up front instead of 2x 140mm and 1x 120mm and the mode button is still on the front panel. The case in this review is apparently being called the Performance Edition.

My dad just did a new build and bought the OG Lancool 2. Can confirm from that the magnets have the foam pads and the sleds are properly hammered at the hinge!
Except for the mesh they seemed to have made changes that they could make to make the OG Lancool 2 better based on GN's review.

Thank you to GN for almost single handedly bringing an airflow focus back to case design. I just bought the Cooler Master H500 a couple weeks ago, and love it, and I honestly feel that case would not exist without the extensive testing you did on that product line.

I remember the time of intrincate front, top, and side/window design combining acrylic panels and mesh. Then came all solid glass, now they at least have mesh. It's time they do something about side windows

Hey, are you guys going to look at the Mettalicgear Neo Qube? You mentioned it in a news video a couple of months ago. It would be interesting to see how an o11 clone performs compared to the real thing.

What do you think is better, the original lancool 2 with more + better fans (for example all 8 fans populated) or the mesh with 3-4 fans populated?
reply

Steve: the mesh has better thermals and cooling
Me: MOAR RGB
But seriously I feel kind of bad because I got the lancool 2 about 3 months ago

11:35 those fans should have been for fresh air intake from bottom of the case onto the GPU.
On the graphic image , the fans are set for exhaust.
