Sponsor: Hyte Y70 Touch Infinite on Amazon - https://geni.us/yTLj or Hyte Y70 Non-Touch on Amazon - https://geni.us/IgTvHC6 We recap the last TWO weeks of news in our first episode back from a small break (after the crazy onslaught of GPU and CPU reviews). GN is hosting a meetup and PC repair event, Intel appoints a new CEO, AMD says its GPU demand is unprecedented, and Valve is rumored to be opening up SteamOS. Sign up for the Kramden garage sale event! Separate from the refurb event and separate tickets available here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gamersnexus-computer-equipment-sale-tickets-1269169342669aff=oddtdtcreator Sign up for the meetup and refurbishing event at Kramden in Durham, NC! Please only sign up if you can attend: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gamersnexus-geek-a-thon-452025-tickets-1268946686699aff=oddtdtcreator The event will include a refurbishing session where we troubleshoot computers, fix them, and install Linux or Windows, starting at 9 AM and lasting until 12 PM. You don't have to stay for all of it. Around 1 PM and until everyone rotates through, Kramden will also be selling a number of our old review items for cheap that we no longer need, with all sales going directly to supporting their tech education and e-waste recycling / refurbishing programs. This includes CPUs, GPUs, cases, coolers, and GN products. We will be filming at the event. Sources: https://www.one-tab.com/page/CVqaSWLaQkmnAconZj6ptw

I honestly still don't understand the point of SteamOS general release.
There are probably hundreds of Linux distros out right now, including multiple that are designed for gaming, notably, Bazzite. The number of people claiming falsely that they are going to switch to Linux once SteamOS is released on desktop is staggering. You know how I know they're not going to switch They're waiting for SteamOS while having no idea what it actually is.
Valve has been pretty clear that this OS is designed for handhelds, and its primary use case is going to be for handhelds that ship with that OS pre-installed. Most people for some reason still have no idea how to install an operating system, including Windows. It's going to be a lolcow when it releases and LTT tries to install it on his desktop and discovers that it's just Linux.

I've got you beat on the old game front FYI, first game I played when i got my new rig, with a 12 GB card and all that, was Interplay's Starfleet Command 1 after seeing someone figured out how to get it working on windows 10 with a guide, and it actually WORKED, like I did all that, to go back to 1999, and if I go back any further, I'll be in Interstate 76 territory, where the characters are made out of 8 gigantic pixels that look like their out of the Dire Straights Money for Nothing music video
and man I wish that kickstarter to buy the IP from activision and make another worked out, as damn I miss that game -_-'
like we've remade resident evil 2, how have we not done mechwarriors with muscle cars yet!

I get emails saying GEEKSQUAD is glad to have me as a customer and is charging my account for 699.00. even though i have no such geeksquad account nor ever used the service which is thru bestbuy. the scam links to get you to call and do the so called REFUND Scam, asking for your bank info to issue you a refund that never happened to over refund so they place 1000s extra into your fake bank account, so now they make you think you owe them money since they over refunded you in a non existent account to begin with. so you send them the real money difference for the fake refund of the geek squad service charge scam.

Back in the Windows XP times, every time I installed XP and connected it to the internet, it would take 2 minutes max until it caught something automatically without interacting with anything at all and then the internet would get so slow it was unusable. Couldn't even update Windows fast enough to not catch whatever it caught. I'd always have to pull the network cable when installing Windows on one of my computers and install a prepared Service Pack disk (I think it was SP2 It's been a while) and then I could connect to the internet without it becoming unusable instantly. Crazy times back then.

Older games....
EverQuest, if you have internet....
Tyrian 2000: It was originally released a shareware, but then the original author added some more levels and got it to work better with NT based OS'es (It was originally a dos-based game, but now it works on XP and newer.) no internet required.
Age of Empires II: The Conquers Edition. I think I saw this was available on GOG, but if you have the original discs, and configure out how to make it look like you're playing it off the CD-ROMs, you can play this without an internet connection as well.

true gamers play older games because NEW GAMES THEIR ARE ZERO THAT ARE ANY GOOD< THEY ALL SUCK< older games are still awesome fun to play. older games, diablo 2 comes to mind released 25 years ago, still play that some times. skyrim, and many many more, no way to make a complete list of older but good games fun to play today. new games = not really a list, since no new games are actually any good to play, they all suck, they are just bug fested cash grabs with broken promises of fixes or even making it fun to play, without constant pay to win cash grab stuff.

Currently replaying Metro Exodus, which is like 6 years old is the newest game I play regularly.
But I play a lot of older games, Dead Island, GTA IV (that's 4 not 5), Saints Row 2, Emperor Battle for Dune, NFS Prostreet, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, Mercenaries 2, Zombie Night Terror, Arcade Paradise (Not so much recently though), Hitman Blood Money, The Sims (#1, that's right, the original).
Planing on playing the stalker series (haven't played before) 1st one game out in 07.
If they never released a new game I'd still never get to play them all in my lifetime.

Well, 9070XT is still not available in Germany. RTX 5080 is in stock, nobody wants them.
I'd rather want to have some sort of Windows Console/Gamepad Edition. I mena it more or less exists for XBox which uses a form of Windows. But when I want to build my own PC that can be used as console and is hooked to the TV I have no ideal operating system for that. You always need a keyboard at least.
PS: Play Outer Wilds if you didn't already. It's one of the best games ever made, and I don't say that very often about a game. It's absolutely genius.

A few notes.
1. AMD should make their own cards to force supply and prices down from their partners, and it will force suppliers to keep their stock levels up, when I'm working with Major projects such as Deployments, I always make sure that the users have enough parts for the new desk/laptop setup, this includes video cables (which many companies refuse to include).
They just brought ZT Systems for their logistic & warehousing lol.
2. Intel needs to focus on what made them successful, this new naming is also shit.

The oldest game I have, although I haven't played it in a decade, is SSI's Gold Box AD&D game, Pool of Radiance from 1988. I got the series from GOG (Good Old Games), and besides the learning curve of the user interface menu (hot keys and cursor controls for the most part), it is STILL one of the best games ever made. Just to deliberately age myself, I played the game in 1988 on a Commodore 128. Sadly, the 4th game in the series was too large for Commodores and only ran on Intel 386 chips (remember those)

I'm what I like to call a Veteran Gamer. Big nerd back in the day but now much older, wiser and married with two children. Time poor and sleep deprived are my pronouns.
In fact I have so little time to play games that over 80% of the games I've bought on Steam have never been played and some haven't even been installed, ever. I get most of my gaming joy from a game I paid $17 USD for back in 2011; Minecraft Java.
I'm getting my money's worth out of this bad boy, let me tell ya.

My main games right now are Horizon, No Man's Sky, Subnautica, a variety of casual games, with occasional jaunts back to skyrim and fallout games. But I have also played Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri in the past year. And Gemcraft. They were fun then and they're fun now. I find I don't have the brain space to deal with learning a new movement system right now: Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield have sat on my disk since I built my computer a year and a half ago.

shame msi is so shortsighted. they decide to drop AMD right as AMD hits with a win and nvidia seems to be trying to create an excuse with garbage processing cards to leave the gaming market. and msi jumps on the cards which are misfiring and sputtering engines needing a dlss EV to push them along at any reasonable speed, while the 9070 xt supercar speeds past. while waving at msi which is having to get out and help dlss4 push the nvidia car.
reply

MSI has really fell off in my opinion with no 9000 AMD graphics cards, even there new motherboards are coming with green on them, its kind of gross- MSI motherboards used to look really good,
as well if your buying a AMD motherboard why would you want lime green on it(or any motherboard) The MSI Tomahawk used to be blacked out and looked really good. MSI is off the build list for me.

extrapolated data gathered from a very specific set...like only online games or something....the newest game I have played was skyrim..2011 edition...and that was years ago...
IF(big if) I get time to play it's usually something like gothic 2...which came out...2002 -ish
yes, old (not live service games) are what a lot of people are playing....no one makes good games anymore.

older games: This is really funny bc while watching this video, also playing Phantasy Star Online on Ephinea servers which are both free to use, and awesome. So a 25y old game, played it on the Gamecube back in the day for way too many hours and for a few weeks or months back into it. It's kinda grindy, but still fun especially with something else like YT or a podcast on the side.

AMD lied, they are barely selling here. they are in stock since day 1 and wont sell as the prices are crawling down (cheapest is still 35% over MSRP) they may have sold to retailers and other souls they tricked with to high a price but they are not leaving retailers. Atleast here in europe which is only a market with 525 million people.

Currently i want to have a go at playing Fallout 4 - on my old PC (R9 390) it ran really bad and soured the game for me when it came out 2017
In the meantime i have not found the time to get to it - currently in the Process of buying and building an new X3D and Radeon 9070XT System to enjoy this in 1440 100 FPS withough thinking about it :D

reply

Nvidia should have doubled the video memory and gave it a little bit more performance and even that high price right there would have been fine. I can't believe how long it's been since I bought a GPU. I won't buy a low tier GPU for the high ass price they want for him and I want a high tier and I'm not going to pay the price of a car
