It's not even just better support for games on Linux, it's support for most media, as well as the sheer viability that it gained to use as a so-called daily driver. Some major pieces of Windows only software might still have a big advantage over their alternatives that might work on Linux, but a lot of things can easily be done on Linux just the same now, if not better, or even like people used to do, as some software kind of retained the approach of applications that made them great in the past (and changed in ways that people don't like). - But even in the recent 5 years or so, there has been a huge change in how viable Linux is, with all the distros and all the improvements in support, all the efforts in standardization, hardware-support, improvements in programs, and so on and so forth. - I only started using Linux in like... late 2021 or early 2022 or so... But I haven't gone back since. I don't need Windows other than a few programs to configure hardware or whatever, for which I only recently started an old laptop on the side. - I refuse to dual boot beyond that, cause I don't need Windows even sitting on the side of Linux, taking up space, the old laptop can do that.
And I tried to make this switch back in like 2010/2011 as well, but this kind of viability was NOT there, AT ALL. - I installed Ubuntu or Mint back then, just because they were some of the most-recommended to be safe, and I just felt lost as to what to do. There was nothing much to do, it was kind of a wasteland for an average user (even though I was familiar with computers since the '90s already). But now you can find software for most things and also install them a bit more easily than before. - And just the way interfaces have been updated has become way more user-friendly as well. Some distros didn't even exist back then that are now some of the best choices.

If anyone is considering moving to Linux permanently - get an AMD GPU if you can afford the switch, even if you just buy a used equivalent to what you have now and make the cash back selling your Nvidia one. It's not as essential as it used to be - Nvidia are improving their Linux support, but it is still not very good. Nvidia open source drivers are not good for anything other than browsing the web, almost all of my issues swapping to Linux were caused by, or related to my Nvidia GPU. Wayland on Nvidia = lots of issues, Wayland on AMD=0 issues (for me). I am on Fedora with an AMD GPU and every single game in my Steam library just works, most games perform just as well or better than on Windows, because of Vulkan on AMD being the best place for Vulkan rendering right now. One or 2 games perform worse and needed a little bit of a bash over the head and then they work fine. Just remember that if you move from Windows to Linux - you will of course have to learn how to do all the basic things again, it's no different from moving to Mac from Windows or selling your car for a motorcycle - there will be lots to learn but you will love the freedom that comes from being free, (not just financially free).

Heh. Steve, my main machine I've been running on for years and mainly watch your stuff on, is my Linux box. Yeah, though Windows has been decent enough for gaming, I've used Linux since the mid 90's and I love it. It's come a long way since then. I play a decent amount of games on it, watch a lot of content, do work stuff, and generally my day to day tasks. Only real issue is that some 'streaming sites' say they don't support linux and won't let us watch even though we can sign up, pay and all that. However those same things play on multiple other Linux devices so they specifically go out of there way to make it not work on Linux. Peacock, and VUDU are that way, and VUDU (Movies everywhere and whatnot linked to it) actually took AWAY the ability for me to be able to watch my digital copies on my Linux box. Which kinda ticks me off, but... yeah.
I love so many more games and the like work here now and Steam is a lot of the reason for it.

The moment Adobe works on Linux in some fashion I'll seriously consider switching or at least dual-booting. Linux still has a VERY LONG way to go however on basic usability for anything outside of the absolute mainstream. Just having a second monitor connected introduces a lot of headaches and the experience of trying to solve any hardware or software edge case remains a waking nightmare. Just don't do that Why would you want to do that Have you tried this completely, obviously irrelevant thing type these 86 separate undocumented arcane things in a command prompt and don't make any typos or you'll create mustard gas, also if it doesn't work there's no going back just ignore it, it won't cause any problems unless you [common everyday thing]

Win11 24H2 OS Build 26100.4652 ...sucks. % OneDrive is a MS money maker, lack of gpedit on Home version, activating (forced) taskbar behavior so browsers can work while running MS Store purchased games, programming PRINT SCRN key to snipping tool (when the key functioned without snipping tool), Start Menu Recommended (pushed) ADVERTISEMENTS, PUSHING REDUNDANT (and successfully installed) same KB Cumulative Updates causing users to perform a FULL System restore to get Updates to function again without displaying Update ERROR. 7:43 Microsoft is letting go of sizeable piece of market share in the older PC market with their hardware restrictions on WIndows 11 and stopping support of 10. I have a fully functional Intel i7-6700 based PC build I use for various things and will eventually need to put Linux on it to keep it going. I have a few older laptops and old PC builds in the same situation that still have enough performance to be usable.
21:30 Miku is an avatar/face/voice of old singing synthesizer software, so at least not originally an anime girl. Steve doing a deep dive video on Vocaloid would be great to watch.

Nvidia Story: Nvidia is freaking clueless.. How has notebook demand decreased its increased due to the amount of people needing to upgrade to a modern one because of Microsoft's Win11 requirements.. So out of touch and just taking a page out of the dictator playbook.. say what you want and dgaf because you control everything you touch.
As a local computer repair shop technician.. Windows 10 and 11 has totally decreased the amount in which Windows just fks up on its own.. so thats good for users but MS has progressively made BAD choices in the direction they are determined to go with it.

About Firefox.... I ditched that browser yesterday. Not because it crashes, but because it isn't as smooth as brave or other browsers. It now wants login information and it isn't as easy to organize my favorites/pinned/bookmarks/etc. It has kind of gone downhill.
And this is on my AMD system, which I typically use for leisure.
I bought a 14900k a bit after it launched. Undervolted it and locked the cores, and the RAM is at 7600MT/s with the timings tuned. My 14900k has average SQ P-Cores but the E-Cores are Golden Samples. I have not had any problems with it to speak of.

Started dual-booting with Bazzite in late April and I've been very happy. Can't use my drawing tablet unfortunately because there's no driver support on Fedora-based distros and OpenTabletDriver doesn't support my specific model yet, but for everything else it's so much nicer than Windows.
Also I switched out my core combo when I saw about the Intel Core 13th/14th gen problems and now have a MSI B650 Tomahawk and Ryzen 7700X. Seems I dodged a bullet not getting a mobo from either Asus or Gigabyte, but now I'm worried security vulnerabilities appearing in MSI mobos.

I know hardcore Linux guys hate Ubuntu and think it’s too easy or made for the masses, but I guarantee them that I wouldn’t have stuck with Linux if not for Ubuntu’s easy install and great driver support. I don’t have time to learn how to do everything by command line and most pc users don’t either. I will say that Ubuntu could be even further optimized to reduce command line usage for things like Geekbench and some program installs, but I like it and it’s helped me save many old PC’s and Intel Macs that would otherwise be useless.

Not to be a shithead, but the conversion from euro price to us never apply in this direction. So converting 899 to more than a grand is not understanding how European pricing works. Usually the price is revealed first in us, and then converted 1:1 in euro resulting in inflated price in EU as the exchange rate is not applied.. Only advantage for European prices is that are already including the VAT, unlike US which depending on which state you live you might dish out more or less total Money depending if you live in CA or Minnesota

What I love about an RTX 5090 made from 5kg of solid gold is it's not even a good material for the application. A heatsink made from gold (which this apparently is) has worse thermal conductivity than copper while being heavier and softer. So even a $500K show piece GPU wouldn't even offer better performance.
A card made from pure silver could make some sense in this crazy reality since it could technically perform better than copper but it's minimal and still heavier and prone to tarnishing.
Put simply... it's time to stop.

I swap completely from Windows to Linux about 1 year ago, both Desktop and Laptop. I really don't miss the shitty Windows OS anymore.
Even my desktop is a new generation, I'm not using Windows. I'm playing all games without out issues under Linux.
For laptop, from last 2-3 major updates, start to be slow. On Linux is still running smooth.
Linux is not perfect, but I know that nobody is spying me and there is no Recall function.
I'm using Debian 13 Trixie with Plasma 6.
So, middle finger to M$hit Company.

I'm not into Miku, but damn, that card is pretty as hell! I love deep, saturated colours, and teal is my favourite. It's great to see more PC stuff that has lots of colour, rather than just accents. The only reason I'd ever put lights in my all black case is for a card like that.
And is Miku really connected to anime As someone who likes anime well enough, I've never thought of the two being all that connected, other than visual style. Eh, I suppose the fans of each would have a lot of overlap, so close enough.

23:03 - Are we not questioning the publication that said that ONE graphics card is using 2.5kg of gold First off, that's more than almost any graphics card weighs normally. Second, the official site says it uses 6.5 grams. Also the image of the card shown looks nothing like the promotional images on the ASUS website, though to be fair that could just be an ASUS problem. This seems like more of a news story on how wrong a publication can be than a story about a graphics card.

Still early innings. NVIDIA is the dominant leader in AI and the preferred technology partner globally. Even w new competition on the horizon, NVIDIA is far ahead of the competition. 85% market share. 76% margin. Unrivaled demand for new Blackwell chip. Demand far exceeds production for Blackwell through this 2025 and beyond. No competitor has anything close to Blackwell. And forward P/E is about 33 (cheap for a high growth stock). Buy this stock and wait. You will be rewarded.

Microsoft is losing market share because of Palestine. Look at what they're doing to the Palestinians: they're a key player in missiles raining from the sky and running cover for a stage 5 manufactured famine. They're doing big brother in NYC. Add in a strategic partnership with Palantir and recall.. people want nothing to do with them. Especially since they told us with Cortana's lore. Everyone should go to linux. Microsoft is on the official BDS list. That's why

Have you guys been talking to AMD at all about why there STILL is no new driver despite cyberpunk finally getting their act together and putting fsr 4 support in the last update One of the biggest nvidia tech demos getting the newest version of AMD frame gen seems like a big story and it's been 2 weeks! AND NOTHING. Hoping it comes out tomorrow/thursday but damn does this look bad for their driver team and future fsr support.

the only reason people dont want to switch to linux now is usually disguised in things like software restrictions, that's just you not wanting to learn something new, Just be honest and admit you're a boomer and don't want to try something new and Photoshop isnt essential to anything you need to do, many of the best graphics designers in the world create some of the most amazing art work on strictly linux.

14:00 You have to know though, that converting prices to USD is not a smart idea with PC parts, phones, etc... In reality, USD pricing can be calculated by taking the number in , not its conversion, and then taking away 10%, as most things are more expensive here. The only thing cheaper in places like Germany is the B580 which can go for 270, which I always hear isn't the market price in the US.
