biggest disadvantage of linux is its diversity one linux user fight with other over distro on who is superior but the truth is alllinux are inferior .they dont even compete with windows because of its rich software ecosystem . if only all developer come toghether and focus on one linux one software package then only it can give serious competition to windows i think canonical understood it so they are pushing snap though it is slow it gives one packaging system to help vendors to easily ship their product to all linux still long time to go.And in mean time windows understood linux important so they are integrating linux kernel in windows which will let user to use linux software once they did that linux will have no future

My laptop: Dell Inspiron 5000 series with Intel i3 (6th gen), 4gb RAM .. 2.00 GHz, 64-bit.. running Windows 10
It is very slow and laggy
I have basic usage.. mostly Browsing, MS Word, watching movies..
I feel Windows 10 is the main cause of the slow system.. Pls suggest should I just remove the windows 10 and install Windows 7 instead?? Or should I go for Linux?? Also how to do that since i have a license version of Windows 10. How does Windows 7 and Linux compare?? Are there any limitations to using Linux?? Pls answer.

Linux is not a user friendly os at all. It is shit. I got rid of every linux distro to be had. It is very hairy and complicated. if you download something you cant easily install the god damned thing without 5000 terminal commands with dollar signs and pipes and totally obscure nomenclatures.. Oh. Yes. Hardware drivers. Good luck searching for those too. Especially sound drivers. Linux blows goats. Good ol' windows wins every time.

I am new to linux and i want to install it. I made some searches for the best distro and most of the lists include distros based on debian i think then it is better than others like arch linux which most of comnents below says that is the best. Right? If most developers use debian and even the creator of linux do not use arch he uses fedora

I've used lot of versions of Linux with different windows manager since 2000 year and I must say I've felt in love with plasma KDE. Right now I am using kde neon but last days it's been kind of buggy. I will come back to Manjaro Kde. Update my comment: I'll try pop os and if I don't like it I'll use Manjaro kde

Hi, I've had this set up since February, but I've recently bought a second monitor. While I did set it up with xrandr and it works, the lock screen (the one with the green circle in the middle) is kind of broken. How can I configure the password prompt's position so it doesn't show between the two monitors?

You said best distro is the one that suits your needs.
I use Labview. Labview only installs as .rpm, only gets
any support trough rpm repositories. Arch is basically
like air to me...... Yes, its awesome, its incredible bleeding edge,
its incredible community. It cant run programs I need.

I am a programmer and even i don't have time to know all these insane library/packages to install. As far as i know i may end up with a mediocry configuration. I just need the most optimized settings out of the box, because some people actually have jobs to do -_-' . With all due respect

How do you get your computer to use so little ram? i have Peppermint Os, and all i have running are a wallpaper app, conky, a dock app, and a few firefox tabs,, and i already use up to 2-3 even 4gb of ram sometimes. isn't peppermint OS supposed to be very lightweight?
reply

Chris, I used Time Shift for a daily backup of Peppermint 10. I can not figure out how to transfer the backup files from the hard drive where it is stored to a USB Drive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
