I totally agree now as I used it again after years on my trusty Tylersburg 5520/X58 dual Xeon workstation into Patsburg C612/X99. Running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 converted as workstation for media work. I came from Server 2003 R2 Enterprise as workstation and used it for a good 10 yrs on many dual and single high end workstations as well as the new 2006 ROG gaming series as it was so stable stripped down for overclocking. Gaming was very limited in early Server 2003 in regards to x64 support drivers for new SLI & X-Fire as well as the need to upgrade to Enterprise grade anti virus of the time. 2008 R2 was a game changer. I'm moving to current Server 2019 Standard on a 5yo workstation so I'm still getting used to it. again, I only use as workstation for now as I'm learning to build a small server data center.

I'd be careful just installing all SDI drivers. I love SDI (it's way less sketchy than the old DRP) but you need to make sure no odd devices show up that make no sense, once in awhile when you open those, it is misidentifying some odd proprietary component as something else (I think once I saw a dell battery driver try to replace some Microsoft surface sensor device or something along those lines), It usually fails but once it took me awhile to realize why I had random broken devices in device manager that magically became actual parts of the laptop when I uninstalled their drivers.

Biggest issue with 2008 R2 is that it doesn't have proper support for .mp4 video playback through HTML in IIS. There was a hotfix (patch) to make it work but Microsoft removed the patch for -it was not a supported use-. Same goes for running Windows 10 in Hyper-V. They had a hotfix but removed it on grounds they didn't want people to do it.... 2008 R2 was the best OS until Microsoft put effort into killing functionality. There is a lot of GPU driver issues too... AMD and NVIDIA both block installs onto Windows Server with consumer GPUs

windows 7 was the best, but Microsoft wanted to make more money by creating 8, which a large number of folks hated, including me. So 10 came along and I fell for it. It is okay in it's own ways. I never have issues others have but understand. I still use Windows 10, but go on Linux from time to time for something different.

Why not make a list of all you do or a script to automate much of this
or better yet do an iso build for such with all the needed updates slipstream into such to simplify it all and at this point it could easily also save considerable time and space much as I've done with w7 etc

No directx12 support and it's optimized for services not applications. Threading and quantums are for server loads. Hyper-v too is very outdated compared to Windows 10 and lacks Linux and FreeBSD support

windows server 2012 R2 is my favorite version of windows because i think it has a good balance between usability, lightweightness and compatibility (its like windows 8.1 but little to no bloat)

-ChrisTitusTech ... ... Do you know if there-s a way to convert W10 Pro Insider to W10 Pro without losing all my data & starting from scratch?
As always, keep up the GREAT TECH videos

My favourite is Windows 8.1! Some websites like Primevideo and Hotstar don't really work in Linux (I'm telling this after trying 30 distros). I still use 8.1 for streaming content.
