Hey guys I'm pretty into heavy gaming/OCing and have been looking to get into linux as I dispise windows 10 (mostly due to bloat as I tend to run lean/minor annoyances) but have been concerned with gaming performance as a big gamer. If I made the switch I would like to run manjaro as it seems the most appealing to me with its more updated packages/better compatibility with a more variety of hardware (hopefully). Do you guys think I as someone on a budget that likes to overclock and tweak setting to get the best out of the components I paid for that linux will pose any problems for me? Current cpu is an amd 1700 and my gpu is a 1080. In particular i tend to hear that linux seems to have better support for ati drivers with their nvidia drivers seemingly lagging behind in performance. I could be wrong but would very much like to hear some input on this from all you veteren linux gamers out there. Especially the ones heavy into benchmarking as its kind of a hobby. I wouldn't reallly want to make the switch if I'm not getting the performance out of the card I paid for and/or if it is suffering from massive performance lose when compared to windows (though some is to be expected). Anyways love the videos and its have been helping me to navigate through all the linux info out there. I would really like for linux to see more success and become more mainstream by recieving more support, as I think it is such a good concept as a whole. Just wish it had better capatibility for games/software/hardware as these are the things that worry me the most regarding the transition.

Heads up: the -make install- command no longer works, as the zip does not come with a makefile. You must use meson (don't know why), although this is easy enough, as instructions are provided.
EDIT: hmm, can't get it to do anything. BRB
EDIT2: I copied the files from the latest version into a version that still used the make command (be careful! the folder structure has changed! look for where the files with the same name are) and ran -make install- and it seems to work just fine. Enabling dls causes the game to fail to load. WIP

Just found this video again, since I now have an old gaming laptop (gtx860m & i7) running and testing out gaming under Manjaro. I have an issue where I'm unable to enable FXAA in Kerbal Space Program. I know it is Linux native, but it runs pretty garbage. Only through Proton with opengl it gets manageable frame rates. But the gpu lacks the power for 2xAA and therefor I liked to force FXAA, but it seems that's not possible using OpenGL as render?

Thank you very much (and even more thanks to the creator of GE) for making me aware of GE. I thouhgt i would never play Resident Evil 7 again, as the normal Proton doesn't work. It runs flawlessly, even with all the cinematics. I'm really stunned how well GE works and how much tweaking it saves me.
Steam! Include it into your client! Its brillant!

I love Linux... But Proton still isn't working in GTA for me... Looking at the ProtonDB and people are saying 5.0.7 is working flawlessly, but I keep getting microstutters and lowered FPS than in Window$... I could deal with the lowered FPS but not the stutters. Here's to hoping next year when I try again that there are more fixes implemented!

i use Proton Ge 6.1 -2 and i got to say it runs very well with games and sometimes some games run normally with proton Ge and on normal proton not working at all or weird issues
Edit: rarely both proton have issues the only games i cant play are with anticheats but i dont play those so all my games work :D

Bit of trivia info here but, when I installed Linux (zorin os) and configured lutris, witcher 3 ran completely fine without a problem (proton ge 16.1), I did have some mods such as HD rework textures and no fall damage, they both came fine too, less complex then fallout or skyrim, I just wanted to leave my 2 cents :)

gaming in linux is awesome.. distro-hopping during lockdown. i tried pop, manjaro, mx linux, linux mint mate. able to run state of decay juggernaut codex..
downside is i cant find a working or a proper fan control.. i cant let my laptop fry an egg gaming. this is heartbreaking. dont want to go back to win7.

Unfortunately it seems that linux gaming with windows and proton just plain does not work at all on my 2010 mac pro with amd card. The games crash on attempting to load. Please look into this! My windows laptop died. My windows desktop was destroyed in the California camp fire.

I tried MX Linux and could not get PlayOnLinux to download dinput8 and dotnet35 for CoH, and steam could not download the vc++ for DCUO so I could play neither, I tried another distro same story over again. I think Microsoft stopped those apps from running Windows games now.
