-ChrisTitusTech Thank you for the video. A couple additions. First, in all the years I have used Linux Mint, I have never had my system break from an update. However, it is still a good idea to set TimeShift to capture on Boot, Hourly and Daily. You can set updates to automatically install and never be bothered with it. Updates install fast, so its not going to hog the system like Windows. Most users can just click the automatic switch: Update manager > Edit > Automation. Second, sometimes if you have old hardware that is not recognized, an older kernel may still have drivers that allow you to utilize the hardware, so reverting back to 4.4 or 4.19 may be the best option and not a newer kernel. Lastly, Linux Mint has been designed so that a user never has to use the terminal. It is the only distribution that is this complete out of the box. Even LMDE opens up the power of Debian to users in a 10 minute install versus 2 hours into vanilla Debian. And you don't have to use the terminal there either.

In the update manager, you may also find the option to apply the updates automatically and to remove any obsolete kernels and dependencies, with the user is cautioned to have system snapshots properly configured just in case. All this just to keep the system in -mint- condition. pun intended :-)
As far as Mr, Michael Hathaway's statement standing true, Linux Mint never did the system break from an update.
On the other hand, it may be that linux mint was designed for the user not to use the terminal, but in the remote case that there may be a broken package that fails to get installed, you may find your self in need of the terminal to run sudo apt-get -f install, to have those dependencies installed. Know thy terminal.
i'm just messing guys, had a really long day, thx Chris for the vid and Michael's input is always well received. cheers

I have been using Linux Mint for few years now. I even switched my father-s PC from windows to linux too.
Currently I have 2 PCs running Linux at home. Heck, I even have my 10 years old MacBook Pro -Linuxised and wiped MacOS out of it.
Apart from not able to use the NVidia official drivers, It was all well, until I bought a new TP-Link USB wifi stick AC1300 T4U V3. Their official website says it supported by Linux but unfortunately I just couldn-t get it to work.
DuckDuckGoed and tried everything recommended, but no luck. The best I could achieve was -make-, -sudo make install-, -sudo cp 8822bu.ko /lib/modules/..../wireless/-, ........ it all works until i reached -sudo modprobe 8822bu-.....
It returns a message, more or less like -unable to ...invalid key....-
Tried for 2 days. No luck. Anyone have any idea?

mmm...MINTY!
LOL, in all seriousness though, it's features like this that you have right there in the GUI updater that makes Mint a good distribution to learn on. Any logical follow up questions to what the GUI does will lead to learning the terminal and config files and some people learn faster after seeing a GUI and then seeing the terminal equivalent. For other users that just want an easy to use system without having to become a Linux vet with uber 1337 command-fu skillz, Mint does a really good job for them. I've sat novices down in front of Mint systems before and they've had no issues doing what they need to do without Windows.

Chris, buddy, I need to correct you on one thing. Kernel 5.3 is not fresh enough for the 5700 XT! I have one, I have seen all the kernels as from 5.4.0 pass by. It will boot but it is not pleasant. Not only do I recommend a much less old kernel than 5.3 because of performance and stability (yes, that is an issue), alos there is a bug up to 5.4.1 or 5.4.2 in regard to the fan-control. On the older kernels the fan ramps up extremely aggressively because AMD changed something about how it controls the fan-curve (from absolute numbers to relative numbers). I guess that not everybody is as sensitive to that but it drove me nuts.

PANIC halt
this was probably in-evitable for me at some point but now I have it: PANIC Halt.
This is a conversion of a brand new Dell Insperion SSD laptop to MINT. Any of the installers run perfect: MINT 19.3, LMDE/4, and -- straight Debian 10.4. Normally if the installer ( USB live stick ) runs OK we expect the installed system will boot. I've been OK with that up to this latest one: the Insperion, w/ Ryzen 5 chip and SSD internal drive. After the install completes normally the newly installed system won't boot: it stops with a PANIC message.
any clues to solve this would be appreciated
thanks

After starting on Ubuntu LTS a few months ago, I can say that Linux Mint is easier for beginners than Ubuntu because of how similar it is to Windows in terms of UI and desktop environment. Ubuntu with gnome is more similar to Mac OS which I think is better for people who primarily use Mac OS. Ubuntu has more forum posts but it can be confusing for new users, especially if the posts are out of date. These videos are great for people who want to give Linux a try. This is far better than Windows Update.

Thank you for the videos... It helps me a lot..
Recently I have changed my OS from Windows to Kali Linux. 1) At first, it was booting faster. But later on it started getting slower. Is there any way to increase my booting speed? (I tried removing unused packages, caches as mentioned in many sites). I only have HDD.. I also installed KDE and xfce(which was by default). 2) Is there any problem running both Desktop Environment?

Update manager is pretty nice. Last week, I did have a problem with it when it gave me a warning message about I think what was libgle3, that it was corrupted. I basically had to go to the terminal to uninstall it and then reinstall it and all was well. I guess some of these things can still crop up that forces one to use the terminal to do some repairs, but the GUI is a nice clean method to do updates for sure.

Hi Chris! I have a dual boot system with windows 7 and Linux mint 19.3 in it. I would like to install a new Linux distro just for gaming as I can't run steam on my mint 19.3. I would also like to keep my windows 7 intact. Kindly suggest me a distro and please suggest how do I install the distro to keep my windows 7 intact. Should I install the new distro from windows 7? Thanks in advanced-
