Problems for Linux Gaming - Chris Titus Tech Huge news about Microsoft just hit the market and how it affects Linux Gaming Anonymous: Desktop PC gaming is on borrowed time anyway, IMO. No real point in buying a full-blown gaming PC now that consoles have native keyboard + mouse support, are more economical, and usually better deliver a better online experience due to less cheaters. And we'll all be on 'the cloud' soon anyway, so it won't matter what OS you're running. The beauty of running a Linux desktop and using it just for 'computer stuff' (OK, and the odd retro\emulated\WINE game in my case) is that you can partially escape the forced upgrade\planned obsolescence cyclemy 'new' PC is 7-year old i3 mini PC that sips power, is totally silent, and feels much faster than my previous Win 7 machine, even though its specs are lower.

Vulkan is superior, and maybe they can't ignore it for too long. The good part is, Linux and open source people who thought for a moment that micro$-!t is changing are proven wrong with this move.
And for whatever company micro$-!t want to acquire, it might not be long until they're dead. Look at nokia, made a contract with micro$-!t, went from the first phone oem on the planet to nothing.
And that might give use hope, micro$-!t might be in a very bad situation, they lost in the mobile, server, supercomputer, their software can't run well on arm, they are slowly loosing ground in the PC. They are hanging to dear life. They literally had to give away windows 10 for free!!

For some reason all the AA devs use DX12. There's no benefit to DX12, but they continue to use it. It may even be just a matter of time before DOOM Eternal gets patched to DX12. The next DOOM will use it and MAYBE Carmack will be able to keep a Vulcan option. But from here on out Linux gaming means being a permanent second class citizen unless you only like Valve titles and indies. EA, ActiBlizard, EPIC, all discriminate against us, and now we can add the last last AAA dev to the list. What else is there to say?
Bright side - my upcoming BigNavi will max out my new ASUS 43in 4K 120hz monitor on almost everything I play.

Well I am not seeing microsoft going to develop a programm for running theire game pass games on linux but that is microsofts maingoal with a lot of development/buying other companys. They want as many people in their game pass subscription no matter wich system or even machine, just look at apple and they whole gamestreaming drama. At least thats how I view the developments in the gaming industry for more than just microsoft all the big companys go hard into gamestreaming and subscriptions.

juat remember the -AARD code- shenanigans against DR Dos by Microsoft in 90s. (or OS/2 later on)
-- It's just a Microsoft again, as it always has been - the killer of innovativity and quality in software world.
Also kinda perfectly explaining mine concerns this company acquiring the github (probably the biggest Open Source storage out there), and offering idea for preservation servers for its content at antarctica (to box it away into the dark-dark cold deep freeze).

This is the last generation for windows gaming. The next generation of Windows has long been announced to be cloud-based only. As such, the lateral move to Linux for gaming is inevitable. Myself and millions of others will be taking themselves and everyone they know with them. We will NOT stand for a cloud OS to -big brother- us into oblivion. So DX-12 or not...we're leaving.

I think Microsoft being a huge corporation doesn-t function all that logically, rather more by vote and greed. The bigger the corporation, the less dynamic and intelligent as committee-s kill that. I still think they-ll kill a shedload of Linux gaming but I don-t think they-ll kill all of it because that would cost more money.

AAA games have been getting more and more sleazy. If it comes down to the Bethseda games or Linux I'll stick with Linux. A lot of great stuff is coming from the indie space and I expect that to continue. If that insane deal they had with game-pass pc won't get me to switch back to Windows I don't think any incentive will do it.

I think making it exclusive to the W10 store would push people even further away from W10. There's enough crap in this OS that already made me and others switch over to Linux. What Vulkan needs is better marketing, maybe some sort of game that uses it to become super popular, or generally more popular games switching to Vulkan.
