Fixing Windows after Microsoft ruins these settings - Chris Titus Tech Windows update and Microsoft Edge are becoming harder to control and these tips will help you better control your system. Without this, I do not think I could continue using Windows without going insane. Project Links: MSEdgeRedirect: https://github.com/rcmaehl/MSEdgeRedirect/releases PolicyPlus: https://github.com/Fleex255/PolicyPlus/releases Funguy: Everytime I get an update windows been installing crap like pc health checker to update to windows 11, changing my privacy setting, giving me ads to update to 365. Feels like I don't even own my pc anymore so disgusting. Feel so hopeless vs these big tech companies as we lose control in our own computer

I disagree with the premise that you are -Fixing- windows. Microsoft wants windows this way, they want you to use edge, they want you to install every update as soon as possible. Windows belongs to Microsoft and forcing it to not function the way Microsoft intends is BREAKING windows.
I respect that most people can't abandon windows in favor of another OS but when people refer to getting around Microsoft's ever tightening grip over how you use windows as -Fixing windows- they are kicking the can down the road. People NEED to understand that it is completely unacceptable that they have to fight the people who make their OS in order to use their computer the way they want to and that this is NOT normal behavior they should just live with.
Personally I don't want to see Windows or Microsoft burn. Windows is frankly an incredible piece of software. I just can't stand to see Microsoft continue to destroy it and make their customers suffer the way they have been doing in recent years.

This was recommended to me, not exactly sure why. I don't agree with you at all. I work for State government, delaying this stuff or changing it not install is a huge problem. Because most normal users don't know to check for updates, their systems will begin to slow down and return errors when the computer hasn't been updated in over a year. That's also the first troubleshooting step in any computer issue, is -checking for updates-. So i don't agree that you should be telling people to change this stuff. :x

In terms of alternatives, Fedora Linux is a great option, it is backed by a great company (Red Hat), can run on older hardware, is resource efficient, gaming nowadays is possible on Linux in terms of available games, performance is same as Windows if not Better, and after the launch of SteamDeck, Linux is getting more available games, so Linux platform is slowly growing and even for gamers, Linux is now getting better.

I just installed Arch (btw) today, as my windows install had become practically unusable. Audio stutter, network dropouts after sleep, and just after the last update, lags and glitches when doing anything 3D accelerated (blender in this case). I also installed the first release of windows 10 in a vm a few days ago, and its unbelievable how bloated it has become (less than 1gb ram usage in idle).

they want control over and your machine, and we all know why that is. I am done with microsoft, google/android and apple was never a fan. I discovered they make a clone of your device in amazon aws cloud and all your ssl 443 traffic thus browser is connecting through other ports when you use edge or chrome. I am about to dissapear from all their servers and operating systems. I am done, seen enough.

One thing about PolicyPlus that you didn't mention, is that you can export .REG file. To do this, go to Share>Export REG>Select User or Computer>and them click Browse to select where you want save the .reg file and also choose the name of the file. Now, all you have to do is click Export button.

The fact that Microsoft treats its customers with such contempt is one of the reasons I switched to Linux two years ago. There are many other good reasons to use it, but on occasions where I'm frustrated with something on Linux, I remind myself that this is the alternative.

30 day MacOS challenge! I don't use it for anything specific other than messing with Hackintoshing and I find myself loving everything about the OS. If I could feasibly game on it (VR user here) I would actually choose it over Linux, and I love Linux.

There is a way to uninstall edge. And theres a registry hack to stop it from being installed from updates. Redirecting browser works untill you update sometimes on the next update, or not too far into the future, then its back to edge again.
