I get a CRC on my external hard drive when I try to access it through file explorer. The strange thing is though that all my other software (Photoshop, PDF reader etc) CAN access the hard drive with no problems ... Which, to me, means that there is NOTHING wrong with my hard drive. This has been happening consistently since the latest Windows update ... I do wish that Microsoft could, for once, deliver an update that doesn't screw things up at random.

the first 3 didn't work for me but I stopped the process for the 1st one since I felt like it would take hours lmao. Howver, Im still gonna try the last and 1st method. Thx for the video anyway whether it solves my problem or not ( I reall wanted to solve this error when extracting data from the rar file of a certain game I finally found some files for, but then this error came )

For the CHKDSK utility, I used the command prompt and had followed the steps. At the end, I got this message on the CMD
698864 files processed.
File data verification completed.-
Phase duration (User file recovery): 1.07 hours.-
An unspecified error occurred (75736e6a726e6c2e 500).
C:\Windows\system32>

Am facing problem of crc nd my external harddisk, its hidden in my computer but shows bad disk in disk management, but the hard disk is not initialized. when i try to initialize it, it give me error of crc i cant run chkdsk because of no letter assign to the drive so what should i do now?

I have an unpartitioned drive with no allocated space. It's the only drive on the laptop.
I cant run chkdsk because I have no volumes created
I cant create a volume because cyclic Redundancy Check Error
Am I Softlocked out of installing anything on the drive?

I tried chkdsk D: /f /r /x on command prompt but got CHLDSK is not available for RAW drives.
Using Error check on file explorer failed because windows can't access the disk.
Now I'm trying recover it but the usb was disconnected despite being plugged in

RECOMMENDED FOR WD MY PASSPORT/RELATED.
None of these methods worked for me,
The error can be simply erased by downloading UTILITY tool of your External/Internal Hard drive, You have to format/erase all data via that tool and it will be immediately solved.

I just want to understand: these methods would be applied only on hard drives, like if I have a disc/dvd and during the setup it reads the CRC error, should i use one of these methods or just clean the disc

All 3 methods are failed to recover my data. Cyclic redundancy check, raw drive, bad sector are still there. The cost of fixing my external driver is 4 times that of the driver itself.

What does it mean when it says -you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the SFC utility-?
Also what if the computer cannot read the hardrive?
