I have used the MS-Office WORD version for Transcribe for a few months. I transcribe sermons, each 25-35 minutes long. they are all single speaker. I have tried Dictate in my version of Word, Google Docs, and MS-Office Word (subscription). They are listed in increasing accuracy. The first two have no punctuation. As your example showed, Transcribe includes punctuation. Sometimes this is useful, others times not so much. My work has many quotations and references. Depending on the speaker, the punctuation may be worthwhile, other times no. Sometimes I am better to start with string of words and go from there with punctuation. In worst case, I use Express Transcribe and retype (with foot pedal). Transcribe works well for good, distinct speakers, sharp sentences and diction. Also, some constructs work in colloquial, but not in manuscript. These need minor editorial changes.
I record the sermons (Stereo Mix/Voice recorder - as discussed in another video), then play back with VLC, external speaker, external mic. I have learned that playback at a slightly slower rate will improve the transcription accuracy. My documents are from 5-9 pages. It takes about 5 work hours to get a 30 minute audio into final manuscript form. As many times as I edit, some things still slip through. I have another person who is willing to read and edit with WORD Comment feature. She comes to the text with fresh pair of eyes. After many passes, I know the text too well to e objective.
I have tried many ways, and found spotty outcomes. The task is important for me as the manuscripts get sent into a prison, where digital materials are prohibited. They get sent elsewhere as resources for personal development.
Anybody have a better idea?

Thanks Kevin. Question though. I bought Microsoft Word 365 for my PC. However, only Dictate and Editor are on the Home ribbon. So I went into Microsoft Word 365 ONLINE using my sign in. I opened Word and Dictate had the drop down to Transcribe. So my question is when I need to transcribe a recording, I have to do it through the ONLINE service and not through the purchased package of Word? Oh dear I hope that's clear

Recently used this feature to -listen- a.k.a. record, a Youtube video for which we needed captions. The YT captioning is pretty good but for some reason I could not get this video to auto-caption; probably too long at 1 hr , 20 minutes. So Word recorded as the video played within my PC, I added it to the document and made a few edits, then uploaded the time stamped transcript to Youtube. Worked really well.

Good Morning Kevin you mentioned you can idetnity the voices .. but what about if I want to de idetnift the voices ? I have 12 interview recordings I have just completed. I am needing a voice changer for the interviews that is not to robotic and can be simply changing the tone etc. What would you suggest ? And which one is the easiest for transferring the audio recording to typed text ? Thanks Tim

A year and a half later, I get -Authentication error. Your recording is saved and will be uploaded to OneDrive when you try again later.- Tried taking full page screenshot with Edge - comes out a mesh, unlike FullPage - a simple and free Chrome extension. That's why people still scoff at Microsoft products.

I am so happy to find this video. My children gave me a gift called Story Worth where I record answers to questions about my childhood/life, and send it to Story Worth in text form to be made into a book. I think I can do all the steps, plus editing with this method!

Question: Microsoft has an audio read function that will read out loud my text from a paragraph or page. How do I make a audio file as the audi funtion is reading my pages? My goal is to have that function read my book and use that as a audio file. Thanks

It is not the best transcribing app, but it is pretty good. My problem is that I had to upload a 91MB file and it is going slow. I am not sure if it is hung up or just working slowly. I am afraid all of the work I transcribed is going to be lost.

Thanks for this! I want to know if I can use Word to transcribe an audio file and use my USB foot pedal to start and stop the audio file rather than the start/stop buttons. I want to transcribe audio files from recorded oral histories. Thanks!
