Notion Is A Tiling and Tabbing Window Manager DistroTube Notion is a tiling, tabbed window manager for the X11. It is a static window manager as opposed to a dynamic window manager, and it is configurable using Lua. If you are one of those i3 users that love that window manager because of its tabbing layout, then you may want to try out notion. - https://notionwm.net/

Hi! Notion maintainer here - thanks for the great video!
xterm isn't completely hardcoded: you can configure it by setting the XTERM variable in your config, and on Debian-based systems it will use the system default via the 'x-terminal-emulator' symlink from their 'alternatives' system. I agree it would be nice to have something similar for other distro's but I'm not aware of any nice standard here.
Mod4+F1..F3 should switch screens without needing 'shift'.
Another tip: resizing with Mod4+RightMouseButton is also very convenient for resizing tiles, this way you don't need to grab the edge but can use most of the tile.
Thanks again, cheers!

Your content is getting thin.. while arch linux is great and all, there are a lot of us that dgaf about arch and would much rather see more content on stuff like kiss linux, void linux minimal or rootFS install, gentoo.. maybe even a BSD? Also here's 2 WMs you haven't covered.. modwm (prepatched and hacked dwm) and wmx (an evolution of wm2)

This is a very cool video! One question I have : any tips or ideas for someone who wants to try multiple window managers on their own? Right now, I have a separate xinitrc for each one, but ir is cumbersome to use because I manually name/rename each one when I switch. Is there a more graceful way to do that?

Hey DT, I recently was looking at Sway Window Manager. It is basically a rewrite of i3 but for Wayland.
I thought a comparison between the two might be interesting.
However, they might be so similar that there would be very little to compare.

I use AwesomeWM here - which has a terrible (in my opinion) default configuration. Once setup 'properly' it is vastly better than it initially seems. Default configs are important - and I've no idea why Awesome never got a decent one.

Did you try sway yet? Well, you have covered i3 and sway is essentially an i3-compatible wayland compositor. Both my laptops seem to heat up just a little bit less under wayland, so that's what I'm currently using.

Have you ever tried wayfire? I find it really awesome because it kind of combines the advantages of a tiling window manager with intuitive operation and cool animations.

Oh my god, I hate this kind of workflow. If I have to use manual twm, bspwm is the best of them. But dynamic tilers are much more convenient and comfy. At least for me

Every time you go back to the keybindings reference, I cant help but expect you to say -But before I go...-, and wonder why the video was over so soon...

Thanks for reviewing programs, even if you may not like and/or use them. That shows less bias and more objectivity. You're a great content creater!!
