Funny how people pick on Gnome, but I just got through doing a test using Arch and Gnome with some extensions, against Arch with XFCE4 installed. Both with the same base Arch, only difference is the DE and the files that go with it. In some games there was a weird framerate drop on XFCE4 and it was smooth as butter on the Gnome. I was actually confused about that, since XFCE4 uses less memory at boot up. I removed some auto start programs on XFCE4 and it made no difference. I was sort of made because I got XFCE4 configured and looking the way I wanted.

Xrandr and ARandR are available to adjust the screen resolution. The 17. 3 has an installer bug affecting the permissions of the /tmp directory that prevents the package installer and synaptic from running after install. The error you got is related to the permissions problem with /tmp. My two videos on AntiX go into these issues and Anticapitalista has fixed the bug and released updated ISOs versioned 17. 3. 1.

AntiX, for those people that think MX Linux is too slow.
To be fair tough, MX does use Fxce, a DE that's about as heavy/light as Mate despite all the publicity that claims it's in the same league as as LXDE or any of the other equally even lighter Window Mangers AntiX comes with.
AntiX - because you should be able to run a modern OS on 20 year old hardware. (and I don't think I'm being sarcastic)

The 32bit version will tickover at 60MB RAM usage when online. Use the simple package manager to stick on Xfce or Mate and you have a great, lightweight distro idling at about 120MB, excellent to run an up to date (and very modern if you use SID) OS on old kit.

Hi Derek. Just for thr record antiX have the VB Guest Additions enabeld! The trick is to logout and log back in. A little weird i know, but it was always that way in antix. Some other Distros does it aswell (ArcoLinux for example)

LLORITO,
When my grandkids ask me what made me smile when I reminisce watching your linux distro installation videos, I will tell them that I absolutely cracked up at the -we need to provide a strong and complicated password--part.

There was an error in the original ISO they posted that denied permissions when you use GUI Install. He posted a Quick fix for it until new ISO's are posted. The new ISO is now Posted 17. 3. 1

One interesting thing is that this is a purecalsa distro. No pulseaudio. A few versions ago i ecpexpected problems mixing sounds with simutaneously playing apps but it was fine

Happy you are still doing Linux distro reviews. Was a little surprised when you mentioned you would stop in the last video you made, or did I misunderstand?

I tried antiX on my 2005 32but 1GB laptop. Felt very 'niche'/ oddball though tools seemed intresting. Not sure how antiX compares to puppy though.
