eDEX-UI - Fullscreen Terminal Inspired By Hollywood - DistroTube Quick look at an Electron-based terminal emulator that was heavily inspired by science fiction movies. That terminal emulator is eDEX-UI. It is attractive, has touchscreen capabilities and is bloated as hell! Жомбор: eDEX-UI is pretty much only good if you are that madlad in school who cooks bacon on their CPU in middle of the class because the other madlad next to you is cooking waffles with a waffle iron
(and yes this actually happened and the teacher were cool with it long as we give her some waffles and bacon and till we won't trigger the fire alarm)

I find it really funny how everyone is bashing on Electron when this video shows probably the smoothest run of that pile of shit software that I've ever seen.
Just to clarify some things if somebody is lost in the comments: the boot log is not -electron taking a lot of time to load-, it is a cosmetic feature that serves absolutely no purpose and can be entirely skipped with the right settings applied. Also you can see in this video a memory leak happens when switching themes a lot, that's an issue that was fixed in v2. 0 - along with a lot of other performance-related problems.
Full disclaimer: I am the developer of eDEX-UI.

Honestly, if it wasn't electron based I'd be super hyped for this. I've got a fair few small touchscreen laptops and I can't always be seated while working. Having a nicely laid out terminal I can just offhand like something ripped straight out of a movie seems spectacular.
Before someone mentions it, I'm the kind of absolute unit that makes typing on a smartphone hard. Combined with the weird aspect ratio that breaks a lot of terminal apps' layouts it makes more sense just to make a small laptop/tablet convertible handle it.

would be more impressive if it not use other depencies and just been own crach build. own folder with. exe on it.
on windows try all command twice different order finally it work it start. yes was wow, but thats it.
would be so cool if have debian core then this load on start and have web wrowser LOL what you do with it if cant have web browser LOL think if it USB boot

I can-t be the only one who sees the awesome utility of the widgets surrounding the terminal?
Of course it sucks that it-s an electron app, but you realise it-s possible to build this in C too, right?
It-s the way a user interface should be. Full of utility, intuitive, transparent. Not convoluted, pre-loaded for RTFM comments on forums and opaque.

It would be nice if we could use midnight commander in the place of edex-ui system display. It would be nice also if there was an option to hide the edex-ui filesystem display. There is no matrix-notype theme but that seems to be easy to fix. Its the most beautiful terminal of the world anyway, but I'm not going to that

-Have you ever wanted an Electron based terminal emulator-
-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-
Meanwhile install Chrome/Chromium and uses it daily.
People, what the f are wrong with you. It is literally the same thing, except one is for browsing internet, and other is for whatever it was made for.

Noooo, not electron. One thing the terminal excels at, when you're not using electron is performance and resource usage. I'd only use it if the goal was to pull 100 unnecessary layers into a shell application and make it vulnerable to the most prominent and dangerous bug classes.

6: 13 no you wont. its just gimmick. you dont run it default and remove whatever desktop eviroment have. you just open terminal LOL. i just not install windows enviroment i boot to terminal like linux should use LOL
what mouse on linux? games? all we need terminal

It's what typical unixporn only tries to emulate: ) Besides so resource-hungry Electron and all that -BTW I use arch- and -Power: ON-: ) it could be pretty neat mini-DE itself. Reminds me WindowMaker for unknown reason.
