Hey, DT. Why Arco Linux Instead Of Arch?- (Plus Other Questions Answered) DistroTube In this lengthy rant video, I address a few questions that I've been receiving from viewers. I discuss fake DistroTube accounts on social media, my thoughts on PeerTube, my experience with LBRY, my thoughts on Arco vs Arch vs Artix, and what YouTubers have influenced my life

I do totally agree on ArcoLinux. I have just replaced it with the now unfortunately discontinued ArchDeepin (which is based on ArchBang) and went on to try ArcoLinux B Deepin. This thing is just a beauty.
Sure, some people call this a beginners distro but I beg to differ. The beauty about Arch and Linux in general is that a good distro gives you freedom of choice. If you are a noob you can feel at home and if you are some super hacker you can feel at home either way.
Now whilst I am perfectly capable to install a Linux system the CLI way only, I don't see why I should as my needs are not that special that I would have to go through all this procedure. Whilst - and I am not trying to make Arch look bad in any way here by saying this - Gentoo for example at least gives me the advantage to compile stuff from scratch, using my custom CFlags and so on - well I even fixed this one with a rather simple bash script.
So ArcoLinux is saving me tons of time while giving me the same if not even better experience and I can still do everything I want like I would be able to on any other Arch System thanks to being fully compatible.
Now with Artix I beg to differ as for the compatibility part. Mostly you are right but because it is a non-systemd distro forget about things like getting the eg. AMD Ryzen optimized kernel from the AUR, they just won't work and the ones that are available to you are rather outdated and kind of defy the whole purpose of running such a bleeding edge distro like Arch. Now I don't hate systemd but I would in principle prefer something like OpenRC when it comes to boot times and some other things. However, compatibility is key and wins so Artix is out as far as I am concerned and to be fair it doesn't seem to be anyway as greatly maintained as ArcoLinux is.
So to make a long story short, why would I want to invest a whole afternoon or so into a simple Linux installation when I can do the same with ArcoLinux in about 10-15 minutes?

THEY HAVE their policies though, just like you have your likes n dislikes. So here is the dealio with that...CAN YOU BE persuaded to perhaps EVOLVE? Well of coarse you can...so likewise you have to explain EXACTLY what you just explained to all of us about their policies to the ones that have the power to make an exception in your case and VET the IMPOSTER out for proof...seriously, you know they have their policies, and you even know what many/most of them are...just explain it the same way you did to us in the video and it should ALSO make perfect sense to them to make an exception and ask the scammer (or whatever they are) to prove their account because they have received complaints about impersonation towards another content creator.

With the Twitter thing and needing to prove you are you, as much as I dislike Twitter the company, I think the policy makes sense. I can the inverse causing problems where people are able to spam verification on an account. I would expect it to be a semi automated process, so the -owner/ user- of the account would have to be constantly dealing with people trying to harass them with identity verification akin to a DoS. Alternatively, the current way, which creates issues for someone in your position on this issue, solves that problem by placing the burden on the individual making the request.

Personally I had issues with my network connection and systemd present. Connections felt random, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. When trying Artix with OpenRC, it's just snappy and realiable. Once I set up my WiFi with wpa_supplicant, which is supported by OpenRC by default, it just automatically connects and works (just had to do few commands on freshly installed system and that's it). I remember in Arch I had problems with nordvpn in like forever, because all the extra shit systemd has interfered somehow. Now I just simply launch the thing, and it works.

I'm using Manjaro because I just want to use my system for work. Being a rolling distro with a little more checking for issues before release means not worrying too much about updates breaking stuff as well as not having to update the entire system and the Pamac software installer/updater/remover that is included is great for me because I don't live to administer my computer's operating system.
My computer is there to run the software that I use for business, not for tinkering with all day.

I tried Artix a couple times lately. Both times the live install froze after a couple of hours. (And I was running different programs.) Because it's all in memory, there's no way to track what went wrong. I'm trying Arco now and I may replace my MX Linux with it. (My longtime distro is Linux Mint because it just works.)

Oh I went to your distrotube.com site and I'm a fan now. You're looking at the camera more, which I really appreciate. I really hope you will be able to support yourself talking about Linux. I'll definitely consider giving you some of my hard-earned money through Patreon just to encourage people to follow their heart.

-Arco does something different but Artix is just Arch.- What an absolute clown take. -Oh boy, it's so different because it runs some pacman behind the scenes that I could easily do myself during Arch install- versus -replaces the entire init system and maintains packages for that new init-.

Arco made Arch easier. Not like Manjaro, many application not working on Manjaro. But with Arco you could install almost anything. Thanks to Eric Dubois. But now I use Hefftor, I'm a DE user, because sometimes my wife or my daughter use my laptop. My favourite WM is IceWM and Openbox.

Arco Linux website is a maze and feels like it was done by someone who doesnt know the english language. They need to simplify the website. Also All the letter versions seems unesecary and could make it easier on themselves to have less releases.
