hello I have installed the latest MX KDE version. I chose the option: PBR for the grub so that this installation starts on a lot of pc.
I chose the right partition (my usb key or I install MX). (usb key samsung 128gb).
after installation I restart and grub error!
so where does this come from ??
I extracted the iso directly on the usb key to install MX! on my other samsung key.
I re-install in default mode, ESP, and this starts but only on the pc where I am.
I tested this with Manjaro and this starts on my 2 pc.
therefore ???

Hi DT,
Speaking of server distros, you might want to check Yunohost (pronounced Why you no host), it's based on latest debian and you can install many different services on it (including nextcloud, gitlab, peertube, mastodon......) even more easily than on your ubuntu server. Everything is managed via a simple web interface or ssh if you don't like GUIs. Also, you can install this distro on almost any hardware or via curl on a machine with debian 10 on it.

are there snap-free distributions? I have used Ubuntu for more than 10 years, but I am starting to dislike snap and I would like to opt-out. If I have to use -fpm- to create Deb packages and have -fpm- to create Snap packages I don't get the difference, and I don't understand why I should use a packaging system that makes my application up to 20 times slower to boot!!!

I-ve been using Nextcloud for years, and before that ownCloud. It-s a fantastic platform and continues to improve rapidly. File sync and share, contacts, and calendar are the killer features; yet it can do a great deal more. You eliminate Dropbox, O365, and other third parties and fully control your data. Really worth taking time to install and see what all it offers!

hey dt i need some help on this. I do not follow when you say domain server to make. Do i need to buy server or something or can i do this on my Desktop PC. What do you mean when you say ssh inn I'm not sure how. What do you mean what do i need to do this you can help thank you. Where can go so you can help me if you can thanks.

Jezza... I installed all LAMP stack manually and on top of that nextcloud too! Omg! :D This method looks way easier. Thank you - good to know next time I will do this like that ;) Holly cow... haha I'm laughing at myself - but you know that at least I have experience and I learn some extra things. Thanks, DT!

there are 3 things i wish would be added to nextcloud, an advanced tagging system (similar to digikam), a faster upload speed and more unified mobile app (not just 10 different apps like what we'd currently find on f-droid). Nextcloud is already in a league of its own but it can still be improved

i just dont think the convenience of the server being public facing outweighs its security risks, especially if its being used as your primary backup for files and passwords (using the passwords app), not to mention its a monthly subscription to have a DDNS setup for home-labers.

Installing is simple but I found upgrades to be problematic. Doing a migration to the latest version left my database in a weird semi-upgraded state and I had to wipe the install and restore a database backup to get things working again.
