while im comfortable donating and playing my part, i dont see how this is sustainable in the very rare future that privacy and FOSS become mainstream. technologies and leaps of innovation only come from capitalist, for-profit companies like SpaceX or Google. privacy cant operate at its fullest in a capitalist environment, and tip culture (where donations are seen as the norm and pretty much expected of people) seems to just be a paywall under a different name. am i missing something here or does the problem of privacy erosion have roots in a much bigger topic?

Call me old called me relic or whatever IST you want to stop wasting your time on the environmental stuff. People will not change the lifestyle they're accustomed to. My kids used to BS me on all this crap and I look at them and they are so wasteful compared to me. It's never going to change until the pain is felt. Focus on privacy and security and make it accessible for the common person who wants those things and are willing to put a little work into it. The stuff is extremely difficult for most people. Example rooting a phone and putting a new OS

I always donate a little bit each month to whatever privacy thing catches my eyes. But I have a policy to ONLY donate to places which accept Monero.
I didnt even think about supporting the creator of Wireguard, I absolutely love that protocol & it amazes me how light weight & efficient it is. I'm 100% checking to see if he accepted Monero right now!

What if I paid yall to set me up with a proper desk top and a phone that is set up for business? You could guide me through my options on software, device types, etc because I wouldn't even know where to start. With the growing censorship and bs in the world I think my idea holds a large demand among people.

Unfortunately many privacy projects don't support private donations (Monero, which is. Surprising. I would have donated considerably more if there were options available that preserve the donors privacy. Specially considering the increasingly scary totalitarian urges western governments seem to have.

Sadly I'm a student with no real income, so i shouldn't really have recurring expenses, but for anyone who can afford it, i would like to suggest adding nextcloud and proxmox to the list for hosting your own, private data ecosystem akin to iCloud or a google account

Ah that's so great to hear! And not only do you contribute yourselves, but you also encourage others to do the same! I'm sure this will be a nice boost to privacy for all. I will have a look at what projects I want to give more support too. :-)

This actually pushed me to finally open my wallet for some projects. I had GrapheneOS in mind personally because anyway to get google away from me is a plus haha. Great video and great initiative!

It's a shame you are giving any percent to environmentalists. Sounds nice until you look into the environmental policies. Lies stacked on lies doing more harm to the planet than good.
