I've made the switch and I'm very happy. Not a great gamer anymore, so the gaming part I'm not bothered about.
Reasons why I switched from Windows to Linux.
1) I don't see any value switching from Win7 to Win10.
2) Linux is free, though I would make financial contributions in the near future to help the project.
3) I'm not going to put myself through all the update hell in Win10.
The only frustration for Windows users using Linux is installing programs, at least it was for me. I'm getting better every week - I'm really amazed how far Linux has come over the years. Thanks Chris for all the videos and info you share. Can you recommend just one good reference manual for all the linux commands when using the terminal? Thanks

you got the point. as daily user, i think what other daily pc user reason why not switching to linux is that they are not even trying and being comfortable within microsoft environment. its just like how most android phones give better choice and even cutting edge tech, they still prefer iPhone, just because of apple environment.
If they think about the environment we are facing today, which is not microsoft, but google (with android), we see that everything is on the cloud now, and we can access our environment from any OS. And that makes linux much wiser choice over windows.

I recently switch to Linux, Manjaro, and everything loads so much faster on my ten year old laptop. Games even download faster. An 85 GB Game that would take over 20 hours to download would now take about 5 hours, on the same internal HDD. When the parts for my new gaming pc comes in, I will most likely still create a windows 10 system on an external SSD, at least until modding games is 100% supported on windows.
I know people don't recommend Manjaro for new users, but aside from having to duckduckgo a few things, it really isn't that bad.

These reasons make sense for a small % desktop users - tech enthusiasts. The most obvious reasons for the laypersons are :
1. For personal use, web browsing etc -- Windows makes their laptop very slow. Linux breathes life into it
2. For business use, people still use mac / Microsoft because still there's no good MSoffice alternative and most offices that provide laptops/desktops , windows comes bundled in it and you pretty much can't change the system

Many people don't even know about other operating systems besides Windows because it always comes packaged in computers. Sort of like brainwashing and people who see this other OS family and its slight faults will go banshee mode on its users.
Also i had a Boot system with Windows and Ubuntu, Windows was broken and when i tried the auto-repair it deleted the Grub Bootloader and Ubuntu my only working OS.
Thanks Bill. -_-

I-m running Ubuntu on a Dell Studio 1555 with a 2.4MHz CPU and 8Gb DDR2 RAM built for Windows Vista, my only problem is getting the sound card to work. However, I boomer not a gamer and listen to music on either my iPad Air or Air4 depending on where I am. As a newbie I like Ubuntu, I-m not saying it-s my forever option but I-m enjoying the learning experience with it and I see no reason to swap and change just at the moment.

I use both because some games can only be played on Windows, which sucks. Windows is for people who dont know how to use a real computer, in Linux its important to learn to use the terminal which is not needed on Windows. Windows does everything for you, it does not require skill. Im probably not the only one but it kind of feels like im a hacker when i use the terminal on Linux. Overall, Linux is the best.

The part about updating: If you do update regularly - its smooth as butter. No restarts, no locking up the machine for hours. You can do it with a simple command, or you can wait for a popup telling you: hey its time for an update, click 'ok' and keep working.
Only exception is when you upgrade the whole OS and not just apps and/or core-components, but even that is a breeze.

Linux with stable version never breaks until you do some weird stuffs. Where as with windows you have to take care of viruses, get a pretty antivirus, install 3rd party softwares and hope that it doesn't slow down windows or an invitation of virus. Privacy...
There are lots of reason once who switched to linux is not gonna think to switch to windows again
