-IPC does matter a lot, Raw speed is still important- -- makes me think of Pentium 4 where Intel just make the pipeline insanly long just to make sure their processor run at super high clock. It suffers from pipeline stalls (when predictions gone wrong, and results in lower performance processor as a result. They have to rethink about the architecture by bring back those P3's architecture and work on that (which becomes Core-processor.
Clock speed does not translate directly to performance, it's about the balance between everything. I guess if intel has gone insanse by making ther core processor 100-stage pipeline, they might have come up with 7GHz processor that peformance worst than my MMX processor: )

Luv Gordon's rants! Though would have preferred closer to that $21 per thread price of $672 if only because (1) currency conversion and after tax US$750 is closer to $1113 in Canada while 672 still keeps it under $1000 (2) not knowing how well it will maintain its value. Upgrade only once every 5years, wanted 16-core threadripper initially, have no guarantees that Zen 3 will be on AM4 let alone Zen 4. My i7-4790K system just suffered a parity circuit failure so will be getting the 3950X at some point in not when it hits the shelves. Anyway this could be all academic if it is impossible to get hold of a 3950X on the 25th.

I'll go with gordon here, 16inch macbook got a few things right this gen, great speaker and great mics. Got to give it to them. Missing is probably a 5700xt and 3950x.
Saying you can just get another android phone with a headphone jack, means you also are excluding pixels, OnePlus, even the new Note 10 and Fold has no jack.
So what now, LG? Maybe Sony or Xiaomi or OPPO or Vivo or Realme. I'm guessing a few of those has no jack as well.

-HANDBRAKE RESULTS are suspect-
There's just NO WAY the R9-3950x beats the R9-3900x by that much. You have 33% more cores and it wins by 65% on the same architecture? How? It shouldn't even win by 33% if the frequency was the same because you can't maintain 100% CPU thread usage throughout the entire test and we can ignore background tasks as insignificant.

Today I swapped out my 1700X ($150, 3/2019) for that sweet 2700X ($130, Today) in a X470 Taichi, H100i Pro AIO & 32GB DDR4-3200CL16 RAM Multi-Purpose PC: -) I'm mounting that 1700X in a new B450 AORUS Pro WiFi ATX Board ($80, Wraith Prism Cooler, & 16GB DDR4-3200CL16 Kit from Newegg ($61) for my grandson's Christmas PC! Thank you AMD!

Amd's $250 3600x nearly beats Intel's $350 I9-9700k. I mean, if you are currently building a new PC, choosing INTEL over AMD just doesn't make sense. I use a 9700k and when I built my PC they were just leaking Ryzen 3. If i was considering the same build now, I would go all AMD, including the GPU.

That 3950X is a monster. it is the closest you'll get to an HEDT on the AM4 socket. ZBrush will be super smooth. Game development will be great too. also rendering will be a dream.
Threadripper will be the gravy on the AMD potatoes

AMD customers always complain about prices and go for the cheap stuff. They go for the sub 200$ bargains like 2600 or 2700x. You can see it in the comments. More hype about 2700x deals then this new 16 core cpu.

she should have done research on last year's black friday deals on 2nd gen AMD cpu, see how much it dropped on that day and maybe predict this year's deals, instead of talking for a long time about nothing.
