-19: 46 - TB was/should have been a network replacement for PC, but Intel saw $$$ if they gave it to MAC, so they did.
tech gurus have ask Intel for TB on PC for years but they don't listen to gurus until they can't make more of Apple. Now all TB devices in MAC world are add-on device, so TB on PC can't be network tech anymore because Apple has sold the tech as storage/monitor/etc. any external device.
TB as Network on PC is still possible but not at the profit margin Intel wants. -imagine very fast Fiber at Ethernet cost, they would have own the networking space, unless Cisco stop them-
it's 2020 and Ethernet have not reach 1Tbps, and the network leader Cisco is telling everyone to go back down the pipe & used 25GBps/50Gbps, when they should be making 100Gbps the default, then 500Gbps, etc.

I was hoping to hear more specifics about future tech and standards driven by intel, that will appear on laptops (and hopefully some will make it's way to desktops) in coming years. But it was very general marketing talk with very little actual info. Also, I would personally like big companies like intel and Dell to concentrate on issues like privacy/data protection, right to repair and planned obsolescence -- things that will benefit us in -real life- much more than a bit smaller webcam or a bit higher screen.

-Donnie, if you want to get ahead of other laptop manufacturers by giving customers what they need in a laptops, work with Samsung and other phone companies to improve the webcams in your laptops! For years, phones have had WAY better camera's than laptops, and with a Quarantine world these days where a laptop is your work environment, people have had to resort to making their phones double as a webcam for a high quality webcam!

Right from the beginning we hear buzzwords about -real world- in the same way that Intel's press release slides have moved to doing so when they don't win benchmarks anymore. This Project Athena specification just sounds like marketing vendor lock-in to exert control over laptop specifications, with Intel Inside of course. This is their answer to AMD's -real-world- innovation in the 4000 series.

What is thin and light and does not compromise performance and battery running with 35W part? Asus zephyrs and tuf gaming laptops, and they go up head to head with 65w 90w parts at much heavier class and more battery hungry class.
Maybe they don-t do instant on or thunderbolt 3 as well, however these 4000 series are real efficient performance parts. No athena spec required.

-3: 58 - he is just saying that this is what Intel is working on, so Dell and it's other partners needs to just get with the program, no question ask, or else!
for 10-years Intel have not listen to consumers, but now they have loss the CPU race, they will now tell consumer what they should want/need. LOL, Intel tech is still good but 5-10years overpriced.

That guy from Intel is an idiot!
PciE 4. 0 is allready available on ryzen, stop saying that you want to bring the next evolution of ssd storage to market as quickly as possible.
Second, literally everyone is screaming about poor webcam quality.
We dont need athena, we need less idiots to begin with.

so the idea is making a label (athena certified compliance) of moderate-highly versatile intel powered device, which also to simplify consumer buying decision, to ensure demand of intel (especially for office/company/certain individuals) to buy intel powered device. not amd right )
i guess thats it

>What is Project Athena
Not anything that's gonna make Intel truly competitive again. Focus on fixing your nodes (whether that's improved 10nm or pushing to 7nm, and find a way to really innovate on your upcoming architectures.
