Photoshop Tutorial: Sketch and Ink Effect Using Difference Blend Mode

Photoshop Tutorial: Sketch and Ink Effect Using Difference Blend Mode

we'll use one of the features of the difference blend mode to create a fantastic effect. When two layers are completely aligned with the exact same image, when you change the blend mode of the top layer to difference, it turns black. Why? Because the difference between two exact same colors is black. Now, whenever the alignment is broken, difference blend mode starts showing cracks or strokes. Besides using the same for alignment purposes, why not use it the other way round to create those stokes? That's exactly what we will do today

How about this technique to create sketch:
1. Desaturate image
2. Duplicate layer
3. Invert layer 2
4. Change blending mode of layer 2 to color dodge
5. Apply Gaussian blur

I tried this method on an old B&W photo and ended up with a distorted mess. The eyes and nose were too large.
