Sounds to me that BOTH are flawed works in progress and it's good that Adobe isn't asking extra for their version because only an idiot would want to use it and be abused by the onerous work arounds it necessitates.
As for Luminar's version?
I agree it's both more natural in the effect it affects; its faster and easier but, I never shoot people professionally - only for fun - but rather objects and sometimes scenes that tend to have very strong foreground elements.
So Luninar's ability to only recognize humans would for all practical purposes make it essentially useless to me at this point.
How the developers at Luninar could overlook such a critical component says to me that they:
A. Were either in too big a rush to get it to market to try to grab market share from Adobe before Adobe premiered their bokeh filter or,
B. Someone at Luninar, who's the leader of the band, was asleep at the switch.

The thing people have to understand is, that a lot of times the technology is not invented by the guys at Adobe or other companies. Instead it's invented by researchers and developers. There are showcases of new technology at SIGGRAPH for example every year. Companies like Adobe then implement the tools into their own software, sometimes with slight changes, but the same at the basis. That's why all those softwares almost do the same thing, and why they invent new tools roughly around the same time of the year; ) 0: 45

I'm pretty sure Adobe will make these filters offline featured at some point. In the neural filters theres even a section called beta, which to me means that these filters arent fully functional yet. I think that Adobe wants to get insights on use cases and filter results to see what they need to improve. I cant imagine that this is supposed to be a finished product. If yes, than we're screwed: D

Well, there is one possible advantage Photoshop has. Because it is done in the cloud it doesn't matter what kind of potato CPU you have, it will always be done in more or less the same time.
On the other side Luminar uses your PC's hardware so it may actually take a lot of time.
What are your PC's specs Unmesh?

I was devoted to Photoshop until they went to the subscription model. It was then I turned to Luminar. That program works pretty well for general photo processing and at a much more reasonable price; I own it, I don't have to rent it. I still use Photoshop (CS6, but I do most of my photo editing in Luminar these days.

So if the AI bokeh only works on human subjects, is it one of the options available in the brush menu so that I can use it for objects or something? For example if I want to add depth to a product photo could I manually mask the object and then add the bokeh?
reply

I don't understand why Adobe would even bother adding some an imperfect (no pun intended lol) feature. Get it right FIRST. THEN roll it out. OMG this is just embarrassing. I've been an Adobe fanboi for over a decade but this is just hideous. Shame Adobe. Shame.

Topaz Labs has Mask AI which allows you to change the attributes of the background including blur and it can output a mask back into Photoshop.
In Photoshop we have the Object Selection Tool. Could that not be a good starting point sometime?

I bought luminar thinking I could make use of a lot of the ai features but I always feel let down by the results. It feels so limited. The bokeh only works on portraits like wth. It cant detect the background of a car photo or anything?
reply

Just purchased Luminar and although it is clearly better than photoshops attempt, I find the masking when it comes to hair is not very good, yes it can be corrected in photoshop but this takes time. Hopefully luminar will improve this

Luminar as Plugin for Affinity, best bang for the buck for sure. Also who at Adobe had the fine idea, to send every photo to Adobe then process it there and send it back. Not only is it slow, its a privacy issue like 1984 times ten.
reply

As long as you dont mind paying a monthly fee and have plenty of money to waste on it Photoshop is great. but if you were smart consumer and want to pay for something one time, luminar beats photo shop any day of the week.

I would like to ask, why I cannot access camera raw dilter in photoshop after finish editing (after merge all the layers together, but if I only use individual picture then I can access camera raw filter. Thank you

Summary
if you are a normal person then you should get Luminar AI but if you want total control and you are a professional editor or related and you want perfection of anything then go to Photoshop

After watching this video, I'm wondering who was it at Adobe, (after seeing how this feature works, who said: Oh yeah, this is good shit, release it. Works like a charm. Seems like some alpha state thing.

Depth Blur now has all the tools you asked for in this video. You should really do a new one, because finally, Photoshop uses its great tools to turn Depth Blur into professional grade.

I have installed Luminar Ai Software. It is a good software. But when it is working for a while, the Luminar Ai has stopped working and closes. Can't work more. Please advise me to fix this
reply

I will prefer luminar, because not everyone has unlimited data plan and if you internet is down then you will be unable to work. And i prefer the luminar ai effects over photoshop
