I ll show you 5 free software for your computer that are actually great! This video will have programs that are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. James: virtualBox is great But it has a learning curve when it comes to best integration with your current system. 2 main areas of user difficulty are knowing the spec's of your system as a whole. How to allocate your system resources. Too much and you have system issues with your primary OS, not enough and you wont benefit from the use of your Virtual O.S. The other issue is the diverse amount of system versions. Before any VM is installed, I recommend learning the basic terminology. often new users of an O.S. will choose to go all in. Something, that is likely why TechGumbo recommends ubuntu or Mint, they are designed with quick adaptation architecture. However, I see loads of new linux users diving head first into builds like backtrack or Kali. Even experienced users have difficulty choosing the best fool for the need. Also, becomming completely reliant on a tool, with no understanding of the manual process. Tools are great, but the tool is only as good as its user. Can't start hitting on an engine with a hammer, an expect to change the oil. Pre. Windows 10 users of Virtual Machines had to understand how to create an Iso Emulator, or pay for quality VM programs. Oracle & Microsoft provided hyper viser and Virtualbox opening the door to less Tech Savvy users. Which is great, but some risk of system failure is always a risk when you learn through Self-study methods. If you can use an alternate system, to learn on. I think a video on Kali install and tool discription would do a lot of help to the curious crowd. Great video though! I was wondering about the Imaging software for creating Vector Images from current Images? My experience is more programming, & Media projects for DJing & audio/ Video editing and Layering. Not photo or drawing visual Arts.

Great Video! I applaud reviewers who include Linux as one of the options in their reviews! I use or have used all of the software you mentioned. Here are some of my favorites: 1) Kubuntu (with Plasma Desktop) 2) Qtractor (Digital Audio Workstation, DAW) 3) X2Go (Remote Desktop Client/Server) 4) KXStudio (Multimedia build similar to Ubuntu Studio, but with better tools like Cadence and Catia) Optional to some of the ones you mentioned that are also good: 1) OBS (Open Broadcast Software), there's nothing like it out there for Linux 2) Sometimes instead of GIMP, I use Gwenview (a simple but powerful image manipulation tool) 3) I had issues with Virtualbox, so I switched to Virt-Manager (Virtual Machine Manager) 4) Mixxx (DJ mixer), there's nothing else out there like it for Linux 5) For my security cameras/nvr, I used to use Zoneminder, but I switched to Ivideon (Not open source, but it's free unless you want to use their cloud service, which has a fee) 6) KeePassX (Password Safe) 7) PlayonLinux and Wine (let you run Windows apps and Games on Linux) 8) I use BOINC to participate in seti home project and the Rosetta home project. 9) I'm at a toss-up between Kdenlive and Cinlerra, I like them both! 10) Google Chrome browser because it does a great job tying in all of my devices to my Gmail.

Hello Mr TechGumbo. I have use a free program called GlassWire and that worked well up to some weeks ago, then it could block programs from connecting to Internet but now you need to be premium to be able to do that and if you click on the firewall it threaten to remove all blocked apps if you do not become a premium user, I have looked for a good free alternative, maybe even one that are open source but without luck, so can you not make one updated episode about free Internet security softwares that does not suck?

Can you recommend Image Sorting Software? I do not want to sort on geo or date/time. I want to setup my Function keys to folders for topics like F1-Family, F2-pets, F3-Cars, F4-Comics-Marvel, F5-Comics-DC, etc. Then I point the software at my Downloads folder. It shows each image and lets me move the image to a folder attached to the function keys. I paid for Sifter years ago that did this and I have used Plumera , but it has some issues. Nothing modern seems to let me quickly move my images into topic folders.

Hey TechGumbo you're doing a great job with all your content. I enjoy your videos very much! I've learned loads with your help. I was wondering if you could do a video on free softwares which allow the broadband from your pc to be shared with other devices such as androids, ipads or playstations. I tried to find such softwares but all of them required money :( Keep doing what you're doing anyways!! God Bless!!

Thank you for your ongoing video series. Yes, it would be nice to have a tutorial on using Virtual Box. Also, it would be nice to have some recommendation for free, cross-platform software for video screen capture (i.e. making screencasts). If it is not possible to find decent cross-platform solution, perhaps a recommendation for each major OS would do to.

Hi there, really love the work you do with these videos! What I find best about them is they are real practical websites and softwares that people might actually use in day to day life instead of some random tech that most people will hardly ever come across. I have a request could you plz do a video on a few beginner level animation apps?

I use and love VirtualBox and help setting it up and now I want to set it up with a different version of Windows - can't figure it out, especially with how to share/access files from my root/host hd. Please create instructions on how to setup VB, this would be huge! Thanks for all of your excellent information! - Shane

I agree that Mixxx is great. I used to use it on the rare occasions when I had to DJ without a controller because my previous version of Serato offered only one deck when not connected to a controller. I also use Linux for browsing and home office but for DJing, recording and mixing I (have to) stay on Windows.

QEMU + Virt Manager is an alternative to VirtualBox, difference is it offers near native performance and also allows you to GPU passthrough so you can play all your Windows games and run graphic intensive software like Photoshop or Premiere for example inside virtual machine on Linux.
