These are 5 free programs that are actually great that you can use on Windows, Mac, or Linux computers. This free software features some of the top programs in various categories. Some may consider these to be the best free software in each category. It s cool that this free software is available as a good alternative to other programs. Just like the other videos in the Free Software series, many of these programs were suggested by viewers, so if you know of any free useful software, let me know.

Except for Stellarium, and very recently, Audacity, this is new info for me. I didn't know I'd enjoy or be interested in astronomy until I downloaded Stellarium fer sumthin ta do about four years ago. Call me paranoid, but my favorite feature is being able to search for stationary orbit satellites and then scope them out with the spotter scope or telescope, which are items I wouldn't own if not for Stellarium. I've used Audacity for about two weeks now and despite what I feel is a learning curve, I'm having a blast with it. I'm learning it pays to invest in a decent mic and keep it away from those pesky electronic cooling fans. Almost no limit to what can be done with sound and that software. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your list. Thanks for the vid and the 'mini' tutorials. Worth a Like and a Sub. Cheers!

Keep in mind that you have to manually disable the telemetry settings to disable in Visual Studio Code and they are hidden. You could always use Atom instead, which is what Visual Studio Code actually is on top of having the telemetry settings as an opt-in/out option the first time you open it after installation. I've been doing video editing quite comfortably with REAPER. It works well and supported under WINE. It still has a bit lacking on the effects front (much like Shotcut), but can do the job quite well. Also, I'm silently replacing Audacity for ocenaudio, simply because it automatically extracts multiple streams from video files without any hassle at all.

Cliqz browser is also really good browser. It's a privacy-based browser that blocks ads, trackers, and phishing scams. It's based on what they call the Human Web where every site you visit, you have the option to mark it as a safe or dangerous site. If you reach a dangerous site, it alerts you if another user marked it as dangerous. It also features a built-in search engine, so instead of going to DuckDuckGo, Google, Yahoo, etc to do your search, all you do is type your search in the address bar and it immediately shows you search results right below without ads. I use their Android browser and it's great. Also available on PC, Macs, iPhone, but not Linux

I like the actual browser that Brave has but I really don't like how it installed it's executable and a bunch of .dll's in the %APPDATA% directory. Malware and viruses get injected into that directory tree and wreak havoc on people's systems. It goes directly against Window's security model because ONLY DATA is supposed to be put there. Never dynamic link libraries and/or executables. So I have to say F#%K Brave Browser until they change how and where it installs itself.

Shotcut is a nice editor and I do use it to transcode files because it has so many codecs. But as far as free editors go, I find HitfilmExpress offers much more tools and possibilities, and it has a buid-in compositer. Even more powerful (but requiring an equally stronger computer) is Blackmagic DaVinci Resole (editor) + Blackmagic Fusion (compositer). But IMHO, HitfilmExpress is the best free editor, and it's a all-in-one (editor + compositer).

I will check out Brave. I'm a long time Firefox user (I think from v1.5 over a decade ago), but they are pretty much destroying it by removing its only distinct feature, the high customizability through extensions, with v57 coming out soon. Do you know how far the extensions in Brave can go? The browser being my main tool on the computer for work and fun, I tend to customize the hell out of it.

Excellent. Finally a video editor that isn't too complicated and actually works on my (antiquated) system. Cheers for that! Also, all the features of stellarium are complicated, but the basic functionality is incredibly intuitive. I pointed some youngsters to it and they were zooming in on Saturn within minutes without reading any manuals. Definitely a must have if you like the night sky.

I tried the Brave Browser and liked it. So, I decided to import all of my FF bookmarks. Brave failed to import them and then crashed. And, yes, FF was closed before attempting to import. Two additional attempts also failed. Then an on-line query showed that many others were having the same issue (of course) and no solution from the Brave team seems to be available. Too bad.

i tried the Brave browser and was really disappointed as it Locked up several times, was really slow compared to Firefox and Chrome and just didn't seem as smooth as i felt it should be. so that suggestion was a bust for me. i'll be checking the others if they look interesting enough.
