Have you ever wondered how strong your abs really are? If so, then you need to take this ab strength test before you do even one more ab workout. It is important to know the true strength of your abs before trying to do ab exercises because not knowing can lead you to get injured. If you try a hard ab exercise and wind up doing it with substitutions of other muscles (like hip flexors) you will likely put your back at risk of getting hurt. The hip flexors are very dominant in ab exercises. They tend to try and take over the exercise while relegating the abdominals to a supporting role whenever possible. This is obviously not desirable for two big reasons. One, if you aren-t targeting your abs with the exercises you are trying to, you will likely never develop the six pack abs you are hoping to get. Second, if your abs are being dominated by a secondary muscle, you are inefficiently performing the exercise and compensating. These compensations can lead long term to breakdown of the joints near and supported by the core. This quick double leg lowering test can be done on the floor right now without any equipment at all. It actually looks similar to a popular lower abs exercise. You lay on your back and bring your legs up to a position where they are perpendicular to the floor (at ninety degrees. Place your hands against the sides of your lower back to ensure that you are maintaining a posterior pelvic tilt and that there is no space at all in the small of your back and the floor. Slowly lower your legs down to the ground, stopping at 75, 45, 30, and 15 degrees off the floor. If at any time you can-t hold the above positions for at least 2 seconds without your pelvis losing the posterior tilt and your back arching then you do not have optimal core and ab strength. The lower you can bring your legs before experiencing this loss of ab control, the stronger your abs are. Ideally, you would be able to complete this ab strength test all the way down and then all the way back up without losing your ability to hold the pelvis. If you find that you have weak abs, you can perform this test as the exercise for strengthening the abs. It will fit into any ab workout and help you to build up the strength of your core on your way to a six pack. If you are looking for unlimited ab workouts that match your strength and ability level, head to and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. Included with your day by day meal plans and workouts (hitting every muscle group in your body in a step by step system) you-ll also get ab workouts that change every day

It's actually a great exercise. If you lye in the ground like that and grab someone's ankles on either side of your head (their ankles should be as close to your shoulders as they can get) and you try to kick their chest bringing your feet up as fast as you can and they kick your feet down as hard as they can push them to the ground and you can't let your feet touch the floor. You keep going until you can't anymore. A great exercise and even if you can't get your feet up that high. It's still a great work out. I slid my hands under my dresser and do it. Works fine. If you do it by your go as slow as you can to increase the burn in your abs. After a week or two of doing that everyday. You'll see a difference. Just do it until you can't do it anymore each time. Or 20-30 times everyday for about 3-4 reps. It kills me when I do it. But it works great. Hah

Ive been doing simple leg raises for years on and off with the only result being sore top 2 abs and pain in my hip flexors that would last days. in a few short minutes youve completely changed everything for me! Ive started pushing my lower back against the ground to maintain that flat back and prevent the take over by my hip flexors. Been doing this only a couple days so far and man, no pain or clicking in my flexors and my abs are on FIRE, seriously dude thank you!

Hey Jeff, huge fan of your videos. I trust your knowledge about training, and not to brag, but I did'nt find this test or exercise challenging. Can you make another video like this, but maybe more advanced and for other muscle groups too? Thanks. Like if you can relate to this and want more!

Going to take some practice to keep the form right, but I think I failed at about the average score he mentioned with proper form. I went lower but I think I overcompensated to try and keep my back flat and gave myself some momentum to work off. It's a pretty cool metric to have for abs.

What if I cant get my anterior tilt thing to cause the lower back to get down to the floor AT ALL? When I lay down flat. (sec let me test again) yeah. I have a slight nerdneck + kyphosis thing going and I can't get my lower back to touch the ground if my life depended on it: (

I-ve made my core a priority for the past -2 years and was able to do the test around 3 times before failure, stopping for about 15 seconds per increment. I-m guessing if I did it as slowly (while talking) that Jeff did it, I-d be just barely able clear it, more or less. Good test!

I practice calisthenics since exactly( right today) twentyseven months (alright, I wasn't training every single week nor month) - my core is Strong. I also knew the -90-95% of this test, by the way I found this video cool, well done, and nice too. ;-) So I'm gonna try it! :-D

Wait. I'm confused. So, does it mean I've failed when I get to the point where the pelvic tilt comes back? Because whenever I do ab exercises like this, my lower back is way off the floor. Does that mean my abs are weak or do I have an unnatural pelvic tilt?

Hey guys, this is a bit random but when I was 13 I decided to start weight lifting and about 3-4 months later I started getting veins all up my arms. Now I-m 14 and I-ve got heaps of them and they are still coming through, just wanted to know what this means
