[2006 Based on a true story] This 19 year old has the ability to swim faster than anyone in the world. His start is not the best, but he knows exactly what his body is doing and that is why he moves through the water than anyone else. Its been years since he used his swimming skills though. Today he is just happy to have found this white dress. He found it in the warehouse where he lives. The other people who also live there are quite peculiar. But even they feel uncomfortable seeing him wear the dress. He has been struggling with addiction problems, excessive partying and depression for several years. He is used to sleeping on friends couches. Sometimes he just makes it to the floor. In a few years, this now 26 year old man, will eventually qualify for the Olympics

I started my swimming career and the first time I learn how to swim was in 2011(12years old) and the next year something bad happend. I broke my left arm and which let me into depression and quit swimming for 3years since my parents were against sports and want me to do well in studies. And in 2016 January, a friend of my attended a swimming class. Hearing that news from him makes the old swimming spirit come back. But when I swim. I lose all my stamina and strength. I couldn't even swim for 5meter and couldn't balance my body properly but I didn't give up. And in few months I started to swim 50meter full length of the pool. But then because of my studies I was asked to quit again. So I came back after a year in 2017 summer(18years)then I had to start everything from the beginning again. And in 2018, I started to swim 300-400meter freestyle. My stamina and endurance was improved and here we don't have indoor pools so we have off season during winter. And in 2019 I started to swim 500meter. but then because of studies which made me to quit again. And last month I came back to swimming again. and this time I decided not to stop and make my Olympic dream come true. And in just 2weeks of training I improved alot. I started to swim 4000-5000meter without feeling tired. My body seems to well adjust to it now. Now my wish is to have a good coach and a better pool with better facility which will help me in my training.

Wow, great story.
In high school, we barely got 30- 40 min. practices so our times were slow. During the following 20 years, I re-learned swimming. I met 2 state champions, a backstroker & breaststroker who both gave me critical tips. Later, I met an Olympic butterflier who told me it was all in the body core & the kick and now I enjoy the fly. I also read books on slipping through the water, good strong push & glides off the walls, keeping my head down and feeling the water for better pulls. At 40, I swam with a group of Masters and had great coaches who pushed me. I blew away my high-school times. 500yd free - HS 6: 25, 40yr old 5: 45. 100yd free HS 58, 40yr. old 52. I was embarrassed many times in HS swim meets but now I enjoy the great feeling of radically improving my times as a 40 year old. My brother and I were close and swam next to each other for 8 years. He swam IM & Fly. He died many years ago and I miss him. When I swim Fly & IM, I feel him and have such a beautiful feeling inside. My brother John pushed me and taught me the most. God is good.

I quitted swimming after my first year as a university swimmer simply because I couldn't stand the rigorous training. I returned to swimming 36 years later for cardio when my feet hurt from running. For some reason, I normally went a lot faster in competition than in practice. So I was curious how fast I was after 36 years. I entered a master event with a goal of getting close to what I could 36 years before. After about one month of extra training, I achieved PB in 100 and 200 Free, beating my best youth times. In the following year, I was itchy to see if I could go faster than my youth sprint times in 50 Free and Fly. Alone by myself, I trained the hardest I'd ever done in my life for three months. Then, I achieved two new PBs in those two sprint events, at 55 years old. So fortunate that the 36 years is not too late.

For the past 3months Ive been going back to the swimming pool to teach myself to swim after years and years living with the fear of drowning. I have a neurological muscular autoimmune disorder called myasthenia gravis which prevents me from doing any physical activities whatsoever. Slow and steady I begin to get better and better, from not finishing a 33m lap to doing 40 laps in under 1h30mn. This week I feel very down coz I have some infections in my mouth from swallowing dirty water from the pool. It happened once before but this time I need a bed rest because of the fever and everything. Anyway this video is an inspiration to us all. Ill be sure to go back to the pool next week

I started swimming when I was 6 at my health club and then I when I was 7 I quit because I didnt like it at all and I wouldnt enjoy anything. Not even swim meets. When my mom said I had a swim meet I would refuse to go and wouldnt even want to swim a relay. I came back when I turned 10 and in that same season I got a couple state cuts and I loved swimming and now Im 14 and made the Illinois zone team. I have made great improvements in the swim meet I just swam I dropped a lot of time. My 100 Fly went from 1: 09. 31 to a 1: 04. 46

With 10 years old I quit competitive swimming because of the anxiety before competitions, although I was very talented and one of the favored ones on the block. At age 13 I came back because I figured I couldnt without the feel of water, it helps me mentally and physically. Now I am 15 a lot of Boys in my age group are faster than I am, I dont know if I will ever recover from the break fully but I just swim for my self and to be a part of the experience swimming and the community gives you.

If I had ever had any real coaching, who knows where I might have gone. Johnny Weissmueller was a child hood hero of mine so I have always been in the water. Got back into swimming to get ready for bilateral hip and one knee replacements. It got me through rehab in half the time that any one else. Still swimming, it is a mental health break for me. For my upcoming 71st birthday in November, it will be 100 yards for each year. Got in 7900 last year.

Referring to someone as a homeless is insensitive. People are not a homeless they are people who are homeless. Secondly, using a picture of a dishevelled, dirty looking person with an unshaved beard implies that all homeless people are like that. Anthony never looked like that when he was homeless and many homeless people take good care of their appearance and hygiene. Stop reinforcing negative stereotypes.

I quit swimming at 12-15 years old and started as an instructor at 12. By the time I turned 20 I vowed I was done with swimming. well, moving to another town in my 30s I contacted the swim club for a bit of side job to my main job, and the road was short to start training again myself. After some time I was offered to attend a competition. And now I train hard to participate in competitions! :D

A fun little couple of facts about Anthony Ervin and Gary Hall, Jr. after their 2000 Olympics tie for gold. Both men went on to win their own 50m free golds; Gary in 2004, Anthony in 2016, and by the same margin, just 0. 01 of a second ahead of silver. Their wins in 2004 and 2016 also made them the oldest male gold medalists in Olympic history.

He should thank his mom that he at least got a life skill instead of despising it. This skill got him out of rock bottom so he should still thank his mom for forcing him to do it. Well nobody likes being forced but parents do what they think is best for their child.

I'm coming back now after 7 YEARS, I was 14 when I stopped. I don't regret my choice because I felt a lot of stress because of swimming and after quitting I had a wonderful High School experience. I know I'll never compete, but it feels so good to be back in the pool!

Faith - such a powerful story of human experience. Truth - perseverance - sometimes we have to accept our lack of strength in order to learn our lessons before giving the strength back to ourselves - finally in agreement as to how to proceed. Incredible work Anthony!
