The Most UNDERRATED Dumbbell Upper Body Exercise Redefining Strength

The Most UNDERRATED Dumbbell Upper Body Exercise I feel like there are always moves that sort of get -forgotten. - They fall out of popularity or get hated on because of one specific issue, or don-t seem -hard enough- and then people stop using them. Even when they-re crazy amazing and beneficial. One such move is the pull over. This upper body exercise is controversial and often overlooked yet it is truly an amazing and efficient upper body move. So why is it often overlooked and underrated? And what-s the controversy when it comes to pull overs? The pull over has fallen out of popularity because it became demonized for causing shoulder pain. Much like squats and lunges are blamed for knee pain and deadlifts for lower back pain, pull overs are blamed for causing shoulder pain. But none of these moves are evil, they are just often misused. And often misunderstood. While the pull over may not be right for someone with shoulder impingement issues or restricted shoulder mobility, it is an amazing move for anyone without current shoulder issues. We have to remember that just because a move may not be right for someone WITH an injury or issue who can-t recruit the correct muscles, doesn-t mean it isn-t right for someone without any issues at all. And demonizing and fearing the pull over for causing shoulder pain may be causing you to miss out on an absolutely amazing compound upper body move. One that could actually even keep your shoulders healthy and happy long-term. A move that is incredibly efficient at working your upper body, making it great for anyone short on time and looking to work multiple large muscles all at once. So if pull overs are so amazing, why are they so controversial? Try this workout!

Please advise on what size weights are suitable?
I've been advised to get one light set & one heavier set eg one 5kg set and one 10kg set.
I'm a beginner on weight & resistance training, still very unfit, weak & overweight.
Only been exercising efficiently 4 to 5 days a week for the last 2 months.
Mostly brisk walks with intermittent HIIT on some days.
Lost 10kg so far and deffinitely getting stronger and more fit.
But long way to go.

I went through the comments hoping someone asked this: You said this is not recommended for shoulder impingement. Could you define (Egad. No pun intended) what that means? I sporadically have shoulder pain when I reach for something. I damaged my rotator cuff, let it heal with no medical treatment. Would this exercise help strengthen those muscles? Thank you is you get a chance to answer.

That-s funny because I describe the DB pullovers as the world-s most underrated exercise. It-s the only movement that finally got my chest to grow. Great for lats and traps, and the bonus is they really hit triceps- as in skip the triceps cable push downs and just do a couple extra sets of pullovers. Go heavy!

What about doing this exercise in a standing oder seated position? Is this exercise comparable to so-called -shoulder walks- (standing position, weights in each hand, stretching one arm forward then up til it is right to the ear, then moving it down again straight while raising the other arm and so on?

But it's only half the movement with Dumbells. ignoring the all important completion of line of force to the hip.
Only the legendary Pullover machine (-Squat for the upper body-) enables full range of motion ie significantly more activation.
A very high pull down machine can accomplish the same also

I have been doing pullovers ever since I started lifting. I love them! I had no idea there was a controversy about it. I've fortunately never had any issues with it. My husband is a former power lifter and he had never done them and loves them. TY for the video!

This is the only exercise that gave me shoulder definition and it's fabulous! I spent YEARS trying to figure out how to build up my shoulders. Another benefit I noticed is that I was able to progress on my other exercises when I added this one, too!

-redefiningstrength is a flatter variation using a kettlebell flat on the floor effective? Unfortunately I don-t have a bench but I have a lot of floor. Would like to know if has the same efficacy.

I've included these in my workouts. BUT! I've been using a stability ball in lieu of bench. would you advise against that? Or do I just need to be extra vigilant about keeping my hips up and still?

This was an excellent video! Thank you Cori I just had a question regarding the difference between using a barbell and a single dumbbell. Is there just a greater lat demand due to the wider grip?
