Its hard to believe that people do the whole grand traverse, both cathedral and cloud veil, faster then it took us to complete just the cathedral. Makes me wish I would have stuck with climbing. The cathedral traverse is no joke. Most of the traverses on this channel have been scrambles for runners this was climbing. At least for me. The fkts are held by people who SOLO the north face. A prospects that instantly gets my forearms pumped and turns my mouth dry. It took us five years to get around to finishing the first half of the Grand Traverse and I can honestly say I was glad we put it off. In those intervening years between the cloud veil and the cathedral I learned to be more comfortable with exposure and I also improved my climbing by a barely perceptible degree. But it was just enough as youll see

Yeehaw! Strong day.
Beta is everything on this route. My first time doing the cathedral traverse took my party 22. 5 hrs car to car. Climbing the north ridge of the Grand in the cold windy shadows is a bit of a stoke suck. The second time I did it as part of the grand traverse and it took us a little over 12 hrs to reach to top of the grand! Climbing the north ridge in the warmth of the sun is a whole different beast!
Also, holy cow the Koven is dry. Last year the snow hadnt receded as much and my partner and I ended up down climbing into the Koven by fist and foot jamming the crack formed between the rock and ice. Sketchiest part of the whole day.
Thanks for the video! I had to sit this summer out due to a knee injury so watching this got me psyched for next year!

Hey i see you did a lot of down climbing on the way to Owen, what gps track did you use? The mountain sense beta goes through all the raps. Also to all those seeing this here is some A tier beta. You can do this entire route with a 42m rope. Every rap/pitch is perfectly set up for that length. The fun history behind this is that p1 on guides wall in cascade canyon is 21m. So the old guides would go do the first pitch, lower down and cut their ropes. Because guiding is such a big thing in the tetons all the rap station/pitches eventually conform to this standard.

With a group of Mediocre Amateurs that changes from adventure to adventure, it reminds me of another great troupe of adventurers:
Danny -> Mo
Christoff -> Larry
Blake -> Curly
Erin -> Shemp
Chase -> Jo
Where's Curly been since his brief reprisal of his role? And how is Larry's hip recovery going? When will we see either of these two again?

Hella sick! I've always wanted to do stuff like this, never lived anywhere near these places though. Strongly considering moving out that way towards the Tetons. I've not done any legit climbing, but I love mountains and getting far out there. Could we meet up sometime to go out and do something cool like this?

I missed the car to car style of this one. I really enjoy seeing the gear load out and route discussion at the beginning. Then the group debrief at the end. Yes - this one is all the adventure and less of the fluff - but Im here for the fluff. Dont skip the logistical stuff, we want to see it all!

Uh, really? Not worthy, and that's OK. you are better men than I. Have done some crazy tele and snowboarding out in the wild, but. Wish I could, but no. You guys experience shit that 99. 9% of the slug population cannot even imagine. Keep in coming, Keep it safe. love you guys. out.

Great documentary of a great day out guys! Glad it was you and not me, some of that loose rock on the ascents and descents of notches would not have found me in my happy place; -) Kudos on the down climbing! Never easy and always unsettling when unroped.

You guys should try the 24 hour challenge in the sawtooth valley: you climb Mt borah, Castle peak, and Thompson peak within 24 hours. So it is the tallest in the lost rivers, white clouds and the sawtooths. I can tell you the strategy if you want.

Hey guys love your video! I am a pretty amateur mountaineer and have climbed a few 14ers in Colorado including pyramid peak. What gear are you guys running? Im hoping to substantially lighten up my gear like yall and am wondering what yall use?
reply

Do you guys even anchor or tether into belay? If one of you fall on lead and the belayer isnt tethers to an anchor or even a piece of gear on the rock youre gonna get pulled off the ledge and be screwed or worse lol

been living in Jackson hole for the season, wish I crossed paths with you once! you are one of my idols to keep progressing with hiking, exploring, mountaineering, etc. ! thanks for all the inspiration!

Flipp'n awesome. If you guys are amateurs, then I don't even fit on the scale. That was so epic. Personally, with those heights and exposures, there is no way I could will myself to do it. Insane.

Not only has Danny's climbing somewhat improved over the past 5 years, but the editing of these videos is reaching a pretty insane level. A real pleasure to watch and instant-stoke-fuel.
reply

Yeah that looked hard. As I watched this video from my rower your obvious pain allowed me to relegate my discomfort as insignificant and only slightly distracting. You guys are badass.
reply

I've watched so many of these the Mediocre Amateur theme music gets stuck in my head. It doesn't even have any lyrics so humming it around my friends is driving them nuts!
reply

great stuff guys. you have the curse of knowledge though. we are not all borth American. where is it? whats the grade, altitude, background info? looks amazing
reply

great video - one thing I am missing on most of your hikes is the date. Please put that in the description if you do not mention it at the start of each video.
reply

Stop making jokes about unnecessary risks. Some actually mediocre amateur that isnt at your level will think thats a great idea and might hurt themselves.

I honestly can't sy enough good things about you guys. Time to get a slot on Rogan. And. I missed Chtistophe's commentary on this one. gotta say it. lol

This looks awesome (and way outside my personal comfort zone! You guys should consider coming to the Dolomites for some more epic scrambling!
