Me and my buddies climbed Mt Greenhorn and the West Spanish Peak about 3 weeks ago. A week ago me and them decided hey we can do Greenhorn and WSP why not Elbert? We started at Black Cloud Trailhead. About 2 miles in, we realized we severely underestimated that bastard. It's not for beginners. Fortunately for our bodies, and unfortunately for our egos, a misforecasted lightning storm drove us back down the trail when we were. 2 miles from the tree line. We were so beat, every 500 ft we climbed we had to stop. We're trying again the first weekend in August. During the Summer, it is such a lush trail. Every Coloradan needs to climb Elbert. It's not the most exciting, but it is the highest point in the mainland US

I don't know why the highest peak patters, but somehow it does.
Seriously. Why does it matter? And why can't I convince myself that it doesn't.
I wasted a good amount of a week in Colorado driving all over the place to get to some higher hikes instead of spending that time on trails that would have been just as good if not better.
All that said. I want every highest peak.

Great footage as usual Danny. I ended up going for that BD pack after seeing it in your last video. Really liking it. Would you mind doing a short video about the gear you take up on these short/medium length adventures? Thanks for posting and keeping us motivated, I end up doing a lot of solo stuff myself due to lack of partners, keep sending it!

Leadville is awesome. got sick as hell at the false peak hiking Elbert, I was probably only 11 at the time. Took us probably 8-9 hours round trip lol and I didnt even summit: ( Did Mt Massive the year before but we were not prepared. that was a much longer trail from what I remember.

I had just done Mt Elbert yesterday it took me 10 and a half hours round trip
It was probably the hardest thing Ive done in my life so far ( this is coming from someone in KC that doesnt have a lot of time to train on mountains)

The most accurate measurement of the summit elevation is 14, 440 ft. The 14, 433 is from a 1928 measurement, while the 14, 440 is from a 1988 measurement. There will be a new measurement in 2022 using GPS, if I remember correctley.

Great video. On which mountain is the highest peak in NM? So much snow in CO this year right? I though climbing Mt. Democrat would be cold because. well. snow. Turns out that the weather was warm so no need for extra layers.

For time constraints. if there were short skis that could be separated in two halves with a slip joint that locks them into a solid ski. This would be a ski that works in other than extreme ski conditions.

As someone who is familiar with the alpes (I'm german, its stunning how (excuse my judgment) boring this 4000m+ summit is. The alpes are so much more rugged, steep, snowy. Good job hiking up there tho!

Still waiting for you guys to do Rainier. You're sure not gonna do that in 3: 38 and I don't think you'll be using your skis a lot either unless you take the tourist route.

You should try Humphreys in Arizona. Super easy hike but the views! Since the mountains in Flagstaff are volcanic and localized you really get a top of the world feeling up there.

You guys should try climbing mt. Shasta in northern California. It's the second highest peak in the Cascades after mt. Rainier and the fifth highest peak in the state at 14, 179 feet

Not only is it the highest point in CO, it's the highest in all of the Rocky Mountains. I've been thinking this is a hike I could maybe handle so thanks for posting it.

I think the disagreement in height is partially to do with using different geoids. I see that for a lot of peaks actually, no one can agree on the exact height.

Come to NH and do the Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains. I know its not as big as stuff in the west but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
