I have really enjoyed so many of your videos, especially the ones with Pops, but this one was particularly special. I missed that you had twins, so a big congratulations! And congratulations on getting your doctorate! That is very impressive.
I wanted to thank you for featuring this stretch of I-5. We will be driving from Sacramento into Oregon soon, so this gave me some ideas for stops. I am especially excited about the cheese recommendation. It was also fun to see places I have been, such as Ashland and Mt. Shasta, but in the winter. I didnt know Ashland was so beautifully decorated for Christmas.
I have driven from Sacramento to LA dozens of times, so it was also nice to know I havent been missing too much on that drive.
I do have one comment about Bravo Farms. While it is a great stop when it isnt crowded, it is a total madhouse during any holiday weekend. If you stop at such times, it is hard even getting in and out of the parking lots around there because of the terrible traffic flow. Unfortunately, when they built Bravo Farms, they did not plan for the traffic congestion it would cause. Consequently, I will no longer stop there during a holiday weekend.
I have stopped at Harris Ranch many times, even on holiday weekends. It is an easier stop.
Again, congratulations and thanks for this and all of your vlog!

Rain is a western Oregon staple. It makes the pastel colors show up. It makes the darks show up and emphisizes christmas decorations. A good raincoat with a hood is standard geer for this climate. A coffee shop and brewery along with a conversation with friends are also Western Oregon staplles. I sugest walk on the beach and a browse through a used book store, a visit to a park with a lot of trees or a walk along a river are other options. Human skin is gennerally waterproof so you don't need to worry about disolving.

When I was 9, my grandmother and I did a roadtrip going the other direction from Woodland, CA to Tillamook, OR. Our goal was to eat as much clam chowder as possible.
I'm so glad you've discovered Yak's. I was told at one point they had locations in Redding and I believe Yreka as well. Dunsmuir used to a be a work stop for me, and I too would always make it a point to stop.
Also, you missed Granzella's in Williams. They have the best milkshake on I-5.

This was really fun. I am from LA, moved to Eugene in the late 80s, and have been in Portland now for the past 23 years. I got married at Skinner's Butte Park. Not at the top, but the park is also gorgeous. I used to live 5 minutes from Pip's! I also painted one of the murals in Springfield in 1993. It's the one behind the library.

As you produce more videos, they are ever more balanced, smoother transitions, cool/unique/interesting, professional, and. enjoyable. The father son, son father relationship aspect is unmatched in the travel blog world. I wouldn't be surprised if a network or film documentary picks you two up one day. Patience prevails.

Wow, how did you manage to drive through Ashland, Oregon, and not mention the Shakespearean Festival? .granted that doesn't run during the winter months, but that is what Ashland is internationally famous for. Have you been to Crater Lake National Park? I think that's the only national park in Oregon.

Love all your videos! My favorite blogs to watch. You remind me of a younger Jeb Brooks who does videos on train travels.
Also, a great stop between Eugene and Grants Pass is Wildlife Safari in Winston. It is a drive thru safari animal park with a free walkabout area. Must see!

Next time you are in Ft Tejon, check to see if they are doing Civil War re-enactments. Its totally worth planning your trip around one of these events and the people involved really love teaching others about history! They even bring out the canons!

I really enjoyed this. My son is in Portland, I'm in LA. We both lived in Phoenix, Oregon, moved after the Almeda fire. But coming back to Ashland someday. Every place from I-5 in Oregon and Northern California is so pretty and fun to visit.

Next time you should visit Silver Falls State Park about 25 minutes north of Salem. There are about 10 waterfalls with easy hike. Two of them you can walk behind the waterfalls without getting wet. The scenery is akin to a Jurassic Park.

You should come back and do the Oregon Coast, the Dunes, and Hwy 20 drive to Bend. I was raised in Southern California from age 7 to age 60. Been in Oregon for going on 7 years and I have to say you missed a lot of beautiful areas.

Portland has definitely changed a lot since the video he made about it a few years ago. Unfortunately, anyone who lives in the PNW knows this is a huge understatement. Used to be a pearl of a city and now is such a trashed mess.

My mom took my pic at the dam, with the towers showing, in 1977.
And, as always, love your content, and Pops is such a bonus!
Edit: Gotta agree, the Harris Ranch Steakhouse is pricey and well worth it.

I really love that you did this trip in the gloomy rain. Half of the experience in Oregon is going to an overlook, having the clouds block it all out and promising yourself to return on a clearer day.

If you watch the Simpsons, and are familiar with Oregon, you will find many names and streets used are Oregonian names, many from Portland where the cartoon was first made.

Why did you go in December it's so rainy. Next do it in October or November you can see the fall colors in Eugene. Or in April to see all the daffodils in bloom.
