Traveling Florida's Space Coast - Cocoa Bch, Melbourne, Cape Canaveral

Ron Jon Surf Shop has been there since I was body surfing and needing new bikinis, in 1972-1976. when I had to start working as a young adult. lol. Actually, my daddy would take us to Cocoa Beach from when I was 10 yrs old, until I was in Junior High and High School. Gosh I miss those days.
Bad part was. in 1975, Man-O-War jellyfish were in huge numbers at Cocoa Bch, because of the hot weather and storms further out. I had huge welts all over my body. Had to stay in the hospital for 2 days, so they could treat my burns, gave me a tetanus shot and antibiotics. it was so bad.
A person can get a seizure disorder from that species of jelly fish. thank God I never got seizures, but I was out of high school the rest of the year. which was only 3 weeks.
I now live in SE Idaho, after travel nursing all over the USA. but 3 of my grown children still live in Florida. one in Cocoa Beach. And she still nags me to come back home and live near her.
Your wonderful and beautiful videos make me miss my home state. And they make me ponder on moving back to Florida. and since they finally have an awesome governor, I may just have to do that. I am 61 yrs young. and still want to body surf!
Being young at heart is always a wonderful fit for Florida. and I aint no snowbird. Lol

Things to note:
Beaches are common and frequently free but some days, you might be pressed to find one with open parking. Drive along the coast far enough, and eventually, you will though.
Paradise Beach has good facilities but the beach has more rocks than most others in the area.
Food: Edelwies has the best German food in the county but has unusual hours
Tely's has good Chinese food but call ahead because they can be busy.
Naoki is good for sushi
Makotos is probably the best hibachi grill in the area (but go for lunch as the prices are a lot cheaper but the portions aren't much smaller)
Rock the Guac and I Dream of Yogurt are next to each other if you are looking for casual tex-mex and frozen yogurt (respectively)
Certainly, many of your big chains are easy to find but these are some recommendations from someone who grew up in the area.

FWIW: Area 13 is the clothing optional area at Playalinda. Just remember, what has been seen cannot be unseen.
Area 1 on Playalinda is the premier place to watch a SpaceX or ULA launch. It's only open during daylight hours, though, and if it is a crewed (human) launch, it won't be open. Call ahead.
In summer months, there are tour operators guiding folks through bioluminescent areas in the aptly named Mosquito Lagoon on the Banana River. It's breathtaking, but if you go, put on a lot of bug spray, and then put on a lot more.

I lived in Rockledge FL and Melbourne FL. Didn’t care much for the area.
A bit older and less taken care of residential area, as far as I’ve seen.
Run down buildings, old shabby homes, landscape isn’t taken care of like other areas with big ditches off the side of the road that can easily be fallen into when driving and fill up with rain water so it’s like a mini lake.
Viera is a nice new community that was just being built around the time I lived there.
My dad drags me and my fam to NASA when he’s visiting so that’s pretty much all I see of the space coast as of late.

Great video! I live in Orlando but have family from Titusville through Palm Bay and I am always in Brevard. Honestly Brevard is the best representation of about everything that Florida has to offer. Very informative. However, there's one thing wrong that I could see. You showed a British Pub, supposedly the 'George and Dragon'. It wasn't, it was the 'Dog and Bone'. A dark, dingy, smoky environment that is not a patch on the actual 'George and Dragon' which is a couple of blocks further up the street. The 'George and Dragon' does not do food but it is a far better pub, great friendly staff, music every night and a lovely cozy atmosphere and feel to it. trust me, I'm English.

If you look at that Ponce De Leon statue from the side it looks like he's taking a selfie because the cross he is holding up is real flat like a phone. Also do not swim in the water anywhere in Florida. It is contaminated with agricultural runoff and the fertiliser causes massive blooms of antibiotic resistant flesh eating bacteria. Its as bad as it sounds. Hospitals here see it all the time, but people who visit and go home die of some undiagnosed infection.

Live here most my life and it just keeps getting worse and worse from the crime to the polluted intercoastal!
when I was a kid we could get clams and scallops and tons of fish from the river and now I wouldn't eat a thing out of it let alone swim in it!

Stumbled upon this by happenstance, while researching the best town for us to relocate. Months and months into research, I can't believe I never found you. This area, and the Clermont/Winter Garden area are what we're deciding between. Thank you for such a beautiful, funny, and informative video!

I moved to the space cost in the 80s had to move inland several times do to work but have returned hopefully this time I am here for good thing have changed over the years but it is still quite beautiful and you can't beet the weather. you did a nice job showing the area. Just hope you didn't make it look as good as it is it might get crowded

that there is a Melbourne in Florida, and a very long stretch of sand. If they were to build a pier, they should name a small
patch of the beach in Melbourne - St. Kilda, after the Inner Melbourne beach.

Loved the video! I would suggest you keep the names of the beaches/parks on the screen the whole time you are talking about them as the video moves very fast and I had to rewind several times to write down the name. I feel like if you blink, you can miss important info. Thank you for the content! Awesome.

Great informative video! I have been looking for a town on the east coast to retire to. I don't drive so I need it to be a area with a good hospital and ER for emergencies. Melbourne hospital gets the highest PATIENT reviews of any hospital in Florida!

Nice video. You should never walk or sit in the sand dunes though because you can kill the Sea oats that hold the dune together.
