There are two schools of thought on the FastPasses. Once you've used your three, you're allowed to use the app to get a fourth FastPass from what's available and ride that. And then a fifth, etc, if you manage that many. So some hardcore Disney-goers schedule their pre-selected FastPasses early, so they can keep chaining more FastPasses through the day.
But, on the other hand, as you say, those early FastPasses can be pointless because some rides don't have bad lines if you get in early. And the selection of late FastPasses can be limited.
My recommendation would be to not worry too much about going beyond three FastPasses unless you're a veteran park-goer. Taking advantage probably requires being more on the ball than most families visiting WDW for the first time are.

We go all the time and when our kids were little we told them to look for whatever gift they wanted and remember it and we'd buy it on our way out from Disney Springs. I'd also recommend not over planning it. We've seen guests completely break down because their schedule is thrown off because of delays or other such issues. When we go, as veterans of Disney World, is to plan the big items but to go and just have fun. Especially as our kids got older, we'd just tell them where to meet us and we'd let them go to do whatever they wanted. They had cell phones if there was an issue, but they felt comfortable in the parks that we didn't have much of an issue at all. We'd meet up for group rides or meals and in general just had a lot of fun!

My spring break is right after everyone else's spring break (figuratively speaking) so my spring break when I was 12 there was still massive crowds but we were in the off-season and it wasn't terrible in any way with crowds. Its great.
Also another thing. I think one of the reasons why the cast members are so polite and enthusiastic is because they spend most of their day at disney world while getting payed! I would love to do that but I can't hear very well sometimes and I might hear Where can I tee up? when it is actually where are the tea cups? and that would make foreign accents that much harder to understand. So I know that I probably shouldn't have a job with lots of interaction with people every day.

The cast members in Florida must be different than the ones in California. At Disneyland in Anaheim they'll yell and shout at you to move when there's a parade about to start, tell you rudely to stand aside, insult what your wearing on your head (Darth Vader did that to me, cast member so old they don't know what you're talking about in regards to Star Wars or any new Disney movies and demand to see ID before purchasing anything even if it's not alcohol. The customer service at Disneyland in Anaheim is rude and so unprofessional!

The crowds are the absolute worst thing about Disney. Crowd calendars are more useless than toilet paper in that it is crowded every minute of every day the parks are open 365 days out of the year. It's just that you have very crowded days and then you have days that are so crowded that they have to turn people away because the park is at capacity. On some attractions a FastPass+ is absolutely mandatory if you don't want to end up blowing half your day waiting in line.

You don't need to wait to buy your souvenirs (especially if you want something that's only in the stores right out of the rides) if you're staying off property, both in Disney and Universal Parks, you can ask them to send your purchases to the front gate and you pick them up before leaving the park and you won't have to be carrying them around.

The best thing to do with Hate #4, i. e. the commercialization, is either wait until the end of the day (as he pointed out) so you're not hauling gifts around all day or go to Downtown Disney and not shop at the parks. The latter is not as crowded and all the shops are close to each other to pick out great merchandise.

It's a small world after all. Oh no anything but that! That song drove me nuts on that ride. Splash mountain is the bomb. It is true the earlier you go the better because the locals have season passes and when it gets hot it gets packed and also certain Europeans are not early risers. This is also true of Bush Gardens.

As an annual passholder I would actually suggest using your fast passes early because once you use them you can add one at a time for the rest of the day. If you leave them for the afternoon you are wasting the opportunity to add more on later.

I'm performing there! I'm going to be playing in the parade on April 16th, and I'm so excited. Our band gets to go to from April 12th-17th, and we get fast passes, and we get to get more fast passes whenever we use all of ours up.
