we head out to Busch Gardens Tampa for a media event showcasing 4 of the new Up Close Animal Encounters available at Busch Gardens. We start out meeting a silverback gorilla. We learned some interesting facts and had the opportunity to toss some treats over to him. We even learned a hand signal the veterinarians use to aid in inspecting his teeth! After the Gorilla we headed over to the Animal Care Center where veterinarians were performing surgery on a silver fox that was found in a local park in need of veterinary care. Then we headed over to meet a black rhinoceros! Her name was Jodi and she was incredibly sweet! Once again the care takers told us so many interesting facts about the rhinos and how Busch Gardens takes care of them. The next tour we went on was the Aldabra tortoises. It was amazing to hear the back stories of the tortoises and how the animal care specialists have made their lives better. We ended off the day with a visit to the sloths where we met Daisy a two toed sloth. All of the animals were so amazing and we learned so much on these tours!

I just want to say thank you so much for highlighting so many amazing animal facilities and for showing people that zoos can be really amazing places! Being in the zoo field I unfortunately see a lot of backlash that zoos experience first hand when they dont deserve the hate and they truly do so much good! Please keep going to different animal facilities, I love it!

My daughter and I have had the honor of feeding a rhino and it was such a humbling experience. Glad that your able to show us part of it. Anything that helps against the struggles of the rhino: ) I had no idea that Busch gardens was such a great zoo.

We see the rock hyraxes every day on the webcam, and they are, as you might guess, hanging out up on the rocks where the baboons also hang out, but not at the same time. They are supposedly most closely related to (elephants.

The extra fee that they charge is well worth it - how many other people can say they got to hand feed these creatures? I did it years ago and will never forget it! So glad you got the opportunity to feed them, Tim!
