ALL great tips! At 64, I also find I physically need days off also, so rainy days work for that. Only time rain has been a problem was when I had only 3 days in Salzburg, and it rained hard all 3 of them, that was only bettered by when I went to Georgia (USA, and it rained 10 consecutive days, which was all the days I had there. Still saw some museums, just put up with the rain some, etc. In Ireland, it has rained 2 out of 3 days pretty consistently when I was there, but I figured out a clever method to hold the camera and umbrella at the same time, so still went around and took pictures.

I've been lucky in my rainy days. It POURED in London, but hey, rainy England, right? ; rained in Berlin when I had sprained my ankle and had to stay in the hotel anyway; rained in Leipzig a couple of times but I was a student there and didn't have any tourist plans ruined; and in Venice, which naturally handles water well and is beautiful in the rainy weather. :) Knock on wood; hopefully it doesn't pour on my one day in Zagreb or something.

All great tips Mark. I actually like rain and don't mind exploring a city in wet weather. unless it's a sustained downpour of course. That happened for a couple of hours in Sydney last month. Found a cafe with wifi and just chilled.

Gonna spend the month of December in the U. K.! I am sure this will be useful! We are just prepared to get wet, no big deal single malt scotch will warm us up nicely!
