If you want to do NY a bit cheaper, don't stay in the city. You're better off staying in Queens or Brooklyn and take the train into the city. Plus, as Mark mentioned in an earlier video, NYC is much more than just Manhattan. Staying in one of the Boro's will give you a truer sense of what NY is all about. A lot of NY'ers actually try to avoid going into the city for many reasons. I wouldn't however, suggest staying across the river in Jersey as the train times can get a bit trickier.

Thanks to all the thoughtful people who have added extra tips in the comments. One interesting comment was to stay in one of the boroughs and take the train into Manhattan. My concern is it would take a lot of extra time. My wife will need to get around in a power-chair due to some physical problems with her feet. How disabled-friendly is the subway? And can you recommend some good places on a subway line?

Oh, I heard this fast pace life of New York Citizens a lot. Germany, where even I, who lives here, is finding slow paced must be very different or even annoying sometimes to them? Anyone any experiences? Or doesn't it matter because you are on vacation anyway and don't expect other cities to be as fast as you?

Question - when you say you can give whatever amount you want to get into the museums, if you give a smaller amount is there someone there looking down on you or something of that nature? Or is there just a donation box you put the money in then walk right in? Just curious.

Bathroom tip. All hotel lobbies have bathrooms. They just don't advertise it. When I'm in NYC, and I have to go. I go into a hotel. Trump Towers has public bathrooms. The New York Palace Hotel. Warwick Hotel on 6th Ave. The Plaza Hotel. Just to name a few.

Also, ladies, DONT use an open style purse. Take one that zips closed and keep it zipped and toward the front of your body with your arm over it. Unfortunately, pickpockets are common in NYC, and they're looking for easy targets. Don't be an easy target!

I loved your tip about not stopping in the middle of the sidewalk. I would add that this should be true ANYWHERE you go! Basically, people aren't aware enough of their surroundings. It's annoying to others, but it dangerous to you!

0: 08 I wish more people knew that. Everyone says the Statue of Liberty is in New York. Its owned by New York, but surrounded by the New Jersey waters of the Hudson River. So, you cant get to it or leave it without being in NJ

I have lived in Southern California pretty much my whole life, I am going to New York in January, any other advice for me?
Kinda nervous because of all these things I have to know and definitely not accustomed to.
