Know your Schnitzel: Wiener Schnitzel = Veal VS Schnitzel Wiener Art = pork The price tag is a pretty good indicator as well, but only a Schnitzel made of veal can be called Wiener Schnitzel (or you're gettign ripped off.
Important: Sauerbraten is NOT beef. At least not traditionally. Today I guess you usually see Sauerbraten made of beef, but be very very VERY careful and always ask what meat it is made of, because otherwise you can end up accidentally eating a horse. Sauerbraten is traditonally made of horse meat, some places still offer it that way and I found out in restaurants they don't necessarily point it out on the menu. The menu often just reads Sauerbraten and doesn't tell you which kind. My advice: always ask what kind of meat the offer. Always Always.

Mark. Mark! MARK! If you were(hypothetically, of course) imprisoned and given ONE final meal TELL THE TRUTH TO US ALL. and say the warden allowed you Mark Wolters one final type of Sausage ONLY to eat and only one brew to drink what would you order for your last sausage and beer?
Second, assuming the German warden was feeling generous given your stature. TELL THE TRUTH #2: If you could have ANY last full meal (German) but only 1 helping on the plate what would you order? Finally, before, .God forbid, .you were taken to the guillotine or whatever. what would you order for one last GERMAN desert to eat, oh wise one?

Das Reinheitsgebot, ( in Englisch the FDA) is the official - legal guide for German food, for the past 500 years. Bier is actually listed as a food. I have never seen a German dip a pretzel in mustard although I have seen lots of Americans do it. That's not to say Germans have never done it. Bier, Wurst etc. have slight variations from region to region in Germany. All made with pride and love.

Just one little thing:
Yes, Sauerbraten is often with beef, but traditional Sauerbtraten will be with horse.
It has become rare so in say 80% of cases it will be beef, but if you read Traditioneller Sauerbtraten (traditional sauerbraten) or if you are unsure, do ask the waiter if it is beef or horse.

Even if you dont drink alcohol, try the German non-alcoholic beer. Germany produces the best non-alcoholic beer I have tried. BTW, Wienerschnitzel quite often comes with potato salad, which is a fantastic combination.

I love how you got excited about the food in Germany, especially that more than 80% of what you mentioned is typical Polish fare that I miss every single day: ) Great job on this!

Speaking of pork in Germany. Even the McRib at McDonalds in Germany is not a seasonal specialty, as in the USA, but is available all year round in every McDonalds restaurant.
